4 AD HOC QUESTIONS FooDS Page 4 Several ad hoc questions were added this month s survey relating to two topics, internet survey panels and the amount of time elementary students have to eat lunch. First, participants were asked: What is the major reason you volunteer to take internet surveys?. About half of the participants stated the main reason they volunteer to take internet surveys is for the monetary compensation or points that can later be redeemed for prizes. About 2 of respondents stated they enjoy taking surveys. Response to: What is the major reason you volunteer to take internet surveys % % 21.4% % Monetary compensation / Points to redeem prizes / lotteries to win cash I feel like my answers can help other people I simply enjoy taking surveys Other
5 AD HOC QUESTIONS FooDS Page 5 Next, participants were asked: Over 1,000 people in addition to you have volunteered to take this survey. What do you believe is the major motivation for other people to take internet surveys? Responses to: What do you believe is the major motivation for other people to take internet surveys? % % % 1 1.1% Monetary compensation / Points to redeem prizes / lotteries to win cash They feel like their answers can help other people They simply enjoy taking surveys Other
6 AD HOC QUESTIONS FooDS Page 6 Participants were then asked: Would you stop taking internet surveys if no incentive (such as monetary compensation, points to redeem prizes, or lotteries to win cash) were offered?. The majority of participants stated that if no incentive were provided, they would stop taking internet surveys. However, 35% of participants stated they would continue taking internet surveys without being compensated. About 3% of respondents stated they currently do not receive any compensation for taking internet surveys. Responses to: Would you stop taking internet surveys if no incentive were offered? % % 2 1 Yes No I don't receive incentives for taking surveys 3.1% 1.3% Prefer not to answer
7 AD HOC QUESTIONS Next, we wanted to understand people s actions as a whole. Participants were asked: Do you have any children living with you who are currently enrolled in elementary school? Approximately 21.3% of participants stated they have a child living with them who is currently enrolled in elementary school. Those who answered yes were asked several questions relating to the amount of time provided for lunch at their child s school. Partiicipants were then asked: At elementary school, how much time is your child given for lunch? On average, elementary students are given about 32 minutes to each lunch. About 39% of respondents stated that their child was given minutes to eat lunch. On average, participants stated that children should be given about 35 minutes to eat lunch. About 32% of participants stated that elementary children should be given minutes for lunch.
