2 PREFACE Dear users, The National Statistical Institute presents to your attention the new Catalogue of statistical publications The Catalogue is quick reference guide including information on publications, which the National Statistical Institute (NSI) is going to issue next year. We continue the tradition of providing our users with printed and electronic publications with the latest statistical data on the demographic, economic and social development of Bulgaria. The subscription and purchase option concerning publications are well described. The ways to contact the NSI are specified, as well. On the NSI website ( one can be found plenty of information on the activities of the institute and the results of statistical surveys - in Bulgarian and in English. Online access to information databases is done through Information System Infostat ( which provides users with options to form and execute requests for statistical data. The rich fund of the NSI s library is at your disposal, where you can gain access to NSI s publications as well as the issues of other Bulgarian and international organisations and publishing houses. It provides domestic and international users with compound information about the demographic, social and economic development of Bulgaria for the period. Information sources are statistical surveys carried out by the NSI and other offices and institutions being bodies of statistics. The statistical information presents the country as a whole (General Review) and it is also given at a regional level (Regional Review) according to the administrative division of Bulgaria (28 districts) and to the Classification of the Territorial Units for Statistics in Bulgaria (2 statistical zones and 6 statistical regions). The Yearbook is designed thematically by chapters and each chapter is preceded by an introductory text with methodological notes. A chapter containing time series by main indicators about demographic, social and economic development of Bulgaria for the period is presented at the beginning of the General Review. Along with information about Bulgaria, the Statistical Yearbook also contains an International Review Section with latest data for other countries available at the NSI at the date of preparation of the publication.
