General Assembly (GA) was held at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Sacramento, CA, 25 to 28 July I am please to report, that since our last Chapter News Letter, we had 15 New Members join or chapter. We are happy that they have seen fit to join RPEA and especially our chapter. Well, this year s GA is over and there were a few items that were of special interest to members, one of the items is that RPEA Membership Due were increased by.50 Cents per month for a Total Monthly Dues of: $5.00, the New Dues will take effect on: 01 January Please read Page 7 in this newsletter for more GA Information and be sure to check out the RPEA as well as RPEA Chapter032 websites. As a reminder, it is very important that you notify our Secretary, Susan, if you will be attending our next Chapter Luncheon Meeting on Thursday, 13 October It is important so that CARROWS can have the tables set up for the Luncheon. I am sorry to announce that Betty Raffaelli, wife of our previous Area I Director, Don Raffaelli Past Away in August. Retired Public Employees Association RPEA is a non-profit association of retirees and active employees who are members of the California Public Retirement System (CalPERS). Our mission is important: RPEA represents all public employees - classified schools, public agencies, and state. RPEA is liaison between retirees and CalPERS. RPEA is a mutual protective association for all beneficiaries of CalPERS. RPEA fights to maintain our current pension and health care benefits and improve these benefits every year. RPEA has local chapters in your area - attend meetings to stay informed and hear interesting speakers. While we encourage participation in one of our 87 chapters, most of our members participate by reading our bi-monthly newsletter, giving us feedback on their needs, and enrolling in one or more of our "members only" insurance programs. 5 Chapter 032 Happenings Hello, well the season are beginning to change. Yay! I am glad that nights are becoming longer, last night, I was talking with a neighbor and I actually got a little chilly. Wintery nights mean, nice hot comforting soup for dinner, watching tv under a nice soft blanket. What about you? What do you enjoy about the changing season? A lot has happened since I wrote last. General Assembly was in Sacramento, one day it was 113 at about 3 pm. Yikes, good thing there is air conditioning. I learned quite a bit from GA. The information that affects the membership is with in this newsletter. Some items that had come up before the assembly did not pass, some items, there was a great deal of discussion and did not pass. The food at GA was tasty as always, the Crowne Plaza has a fabulous chef who makes wonderful things. Last month, the Fun/Bingo Meeting happened, there were about 20 people. We had a great time, the board is in the process of discussing whether to continue to hold this meeting. We had quite a few winners, please consider joining us. By the time you read this, Area Director Paul and I will have gone to Lake County and Crescent City. Stay well, stay joyous. There are 5 million drivers in the State of CA that are 65 and over. If there are health issues, Drs are required by the State to report to DMV, they need to fill out a 5 page report for DMV to review. After the age of 70, drivers must go into DMV office. Over the age of 62, drivers are encouraged to go into DMV and apply for a CID, this is free, the advantages are that seniors in the event they lose their license for whatever reason, still have ID. 7 Chapter 032 meetings 2016 Board Meetings General / Luncheon January X 14th 13th February X 11th March X 10th April X 14th May X 12th June X 9th September X 8th November 10th October December 13th 8th GA Information 2016 Some important things to note from this year s General Assembly that was held in Sacramento, CA: The resolution to hold General Assembly every 4 years failed to pass. GA will continue to be held every 2 years. A resolution to increase membership dues by $0.50 per month passed. This measure will go into ef-fect January 1, 2017 for dues deduction members and upon renewal for cash pay members. This will bring annual dues to $60 per year for active mem-bers and $30 per year for affili-ates. In addition to the voting on the resolutions, delegates voted to return to office President George Linn, Vice President Al Darby, Secretary/Treasurer Marie Reed, and Director of Leg islation James Anderson. The office of Director of Public Re lations was filled by the election of our own C.T. Weber, and there was no candidate running for the office of Director of Health Benefits. An appointment by President Linn to fill this position will be made at a later date. Please check out the RPEA.com website for more GA business that transpired.
