1 Associations June 25, 2016 The Honorable Nathan Deal Governor, State of Georgia 111 State Capitol Atlanta, Georgia Dear Governor Deal: In the 2016 General Session, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed Resolution 1382 to encourage the Department of Community Health to create and seek the advice of a State Health Benefit Plan Customer Advisory Council. The resolution, authored by Rep. Debbie Buckner, had more than 50 cosigners of whom 20 were Republicans. Given that decisions for the 2017 SHBP benefit design must be completed soon, we believe it critical for the council officially to be created and members appointed in time to advise the Commissioner and Board on those decisions. We ask your support in this activity. The Resolution provides that Commissioner Reese appoint a broad base of retired and active SHBP members who can provide insight about the plan design and members satisfaction. In an effort to assist the Commissioner and Board and as provided by the Resolution, the undersigned active and retired employee/teacher organizations submit nominations for Council participation. We recognize that you desire to maintain a plan that will meet the needs of the member population while meeting all of the legal and financial requirements. We believe that the Advisory Council will be of much assistance to the Commissioner, to the Board, and to you. Thank you for your support in this endeavor, and we look forward to working with you and Commissioner Reese in establishing this council.
