1 EQUALITY SURVEY 2018 Summary report Explanatory note The percentages quoted in this summary have been rounded to the nearest whole number unless the percentage is less than 1% results are only shown where there is a significant variation from the 2018 results and where shown they appear in brackets. General There were 23,884 respondents. The survey was open from 8 June 27 August members did not respond further than whether they were a UNISON member or not. The survey was promoted through the regions, our activist networks and also via the UNISON website, e-bulletins and social media. It is important to note that not all respondents answered all questions, so the figures given in the headline section must be read in conjunction with the statistical report that accompanies this summary. 13% of members were from our activist base, which is a lower percentage than previous years. This is likely due to the fact that this year the survey reached more people in the wider membership. Significant variations (at least 3% or more) from last year are underlined. The Standard of Living table on page 6 contains data that demonstrates how the SOG/young member groups are seeing increases in their cost of living. Of particular concern is the increase in members across the different groups who are going without a daily meal and/or keeping their home warm in order to balance their budgets. If you have any questions or feedback about this year s survey or suggestions for future Equality surveys, please contact Haifa Rashed h.rashed@unison.co.uk Respondent characteristics and employment The total number of respondents more than doubled to 23,884 (11,950) Question 2 How long have you been a UNISON member?
