1 On the number of equvalence classes of nvertble Boolean functons under acton of permutaton of varables on doman and range arxv: v2 [math.co] 6 Apr 2016 Marko Carć and Modrag Žvkovć Abstract. Let V n be the number of equvalence classes of nvertble maps from {0,1} n to {0,1} n, under acton of permutaton of varables on doman and range. So far, the values V n have been known for n 6. Ths paper descrbes the procedure by whch the values of V n are calculated for n Introducton Let V n be the number of equvalence classes of nvertble maps from {0,1} n to {0,1} n, under acton of permutaton of varables on doman and range. Lorens [1] gave a method for calculatng the number of equvalence classes of nvertble Boolean functons under the followng group operatons on the nput and output varables: complementaton, permutaton, composton of complementaton and permutaton, lnear transformatons and affne transformatons. In partcular, he calculated the values V n for n 5. Irvne [4] n calculated V 6 (the sequence A000653). In ths paper usng a more effcent procedure, the values V n are calculated for n Notaton Let S r denote symmetrc group on r letters. Consder a set of vectoral nvertble Boolean functons (herenafter referred to as functons),.e. the set S N of permutatons of B n {0,1} n, where N 2 n. The functon F S N maps the n-tuple X (x 1,...,x n ) B n nto Y (y 1,...,y n ) F(X). For some permutaton σ S n, the result of ts acton on X (x 1,...,x n ) B n s σ (X) (x σ(1),...,x σ(n) ) B n. An arbtrary par (ρ,σ) S 2 n determnes mappng T ρ,σ : S N S N, defned by T ρ,σ (F) ρ F σ where F S N ; n other words, f F T ρ,σ (F) then F (X) 2010 Mathematcs Subject Classfcaton. 2 2 CARIĆ AND ŽIVKOVIĆ ρ (F(σ (X))) for all X B n. The set of all mappngs T ρ,σ wth respect to composton s a subgroup of S N!. The two functons F,H S N are consdered equvalent f there exst permutatons ρ,σ S n such that H T ρ,σ (F),.e. f they dffer only by a permutaton of nput or output varables. Let ι denote the dentty permutaton. Every permutaton σ S n unquely determnes the permutaton σ S N. Let S n denote the subgroup of S N consstng of all permutatons σ correspondng to permutatons σ S n. The mappng σ σ s a monomorphsm from S n to S N (see [2]). Let σ S r. Let p, 1 r, denote the number of cycles of length n a cycle decomposton of σ; here r 1 p r. The cycle ndex monomal of σ s the product r 1 t p, where t, 1 r, are ndependent varables. It can be equvalently descrbed by the vector spec(σ) p (p 1,p 2,...,p r ). For an arbtrary postve nteger n let P n {(p 1,p 2,...,p n ) p 0, n 1 p n} denote the set of parttons of n. For some p P n let S n,p {σ S n spec(σ) p}. An arbtrary partton p corresponds to the decomposton n k p,1 +k p,2 + +k p,m(p) nto postve summands k p,1 k p,2 k p,m(p) > 0 where summand n,n 1,...,1 n ths sum appears p tmes. Let < r,s > and (r,s) denote the least common multple and the greatest common dvsor of r and s, respectvely. 3. Prelmnares The calculaton of V n s based on the followng known facts (see e.g. [1, 2, 3]): (1) The cardnalty of S n,p equals to S n,p n! p p!. (2) Let σ 1, σ 2 S n be permutatons such that spec(σ 1 ) spec(σ 2 ). Then spec(σ 1 ) spec(σ 2 ). In other words, permutatons wth the same cycle ndex n S n nduce the permutatons wth the same cycle ndex n S n. (3) The permutaton T ρ,σ has at least one fxed pont f and only f spec(σ) spec(ρ). (4) Let σ S n,p and let spec(σ ) p (p 1,p 2,...,p N ). The number of fxed ponts of T ρ,σ s N p p p!. (5) If σ S n s a cyclc permutaton (a permutaton havng only one cycle of the length k > 1), then the cycle ndex monomal of the permutaton σ s d k f e(d) d,

(6) If α s a permutaton on a set X wth X a and α has a cycle ndex monomal f j 1 1 f j a a, and β s a permutaton on Y wth Y b and β has a cycle ndex monomal f k 1 1 f k b b, then the permutaton (α,β) actng on X Y by the rule (α,β)(x,y) (α(x),β(y)) has cycle ndex monomal gven by ( a p1 f j p p ) ( b q1 f k ) q q a b p1 q1 ( f j p p f k ) a q q b p1 q1 f j pk q (p,q) <p,q>. 4. The number of equvalence classes The value of V n s determned by the followng theorem. Theorem 4.1. For an arbtrary p P n let σ S n,p. If spec(σ ) (p 1,...,p n), then (4.1) V n p p (! 2. p p!) p P n Proof. The permutaton F S N s a fxed pont of T ρ,σ f T ρ,σ (F(X)) F(X) holds for all X B n. Let I(ρ,σ) be a number of fxed ponts of T ρ,σ. By Frobenus lemma (see e.g. [1]) the number of equvalence classes s equal to V n 1 (n!) 2 I(ρ,σ) 1 (n!) 2 ρ S n σ S n p P n ρ S n,p q P n σ S n,q I(ρ,σ). By the facts (2),(3),(4) from Prelmnares, the number of fxed ponts of T ρ,σ correspondng to fxed permutatons ρ S n,p, σ S n,q s equal to I(ρ,σ) { 0, p q N p, p q
4 4 CARIĆ AND ŽIVKOVIĆ Therefore V n 1 (n!) 2 1 (n!) 2 p P n N p 1 (n!) 2 σ S n,p p P n ρ S n,p 1 1 (n!) 2 N p S n,p 2 σ S n,p p P n p P n ρ S n,p q {p} N p p P n ρ S n,p p p! ( p p!) 2 σ S n,p N p By nducton the followng generalzaton of the fact (6) can be proved. If α s permutaton on Z, Z k, 1,...,n, and f the cycle ndex monomal of α s f y,1 1 f y,k k, then the permutaton (α 1,...,α n ) actng on Z 1 Z 2 Z n by the rule: (α 1,...,α n )(z 1,...,z n ) (α 1 (z 1 ),...,α n (z n )) has cycle ndex monomal gven by: (4.2) n 1 ( k z 1 f y,z z ) k 1 k 2 z 1 1 z 2 1 k 1 k 2 z 1 1 z 2 1 k n n z n 1 1 k n z n 1 f y,z z n1 (z y,z )/<z 1,z 2,...,z n > f<z 1,z 2,...,z n > The proof s based on the fact, also proved by nducton, that the cycle ndex monomal of the drect product of n permutatons wth cycle ndex monomals f y z, 1 n s equal to n 1 f y z n1 (z f y )/<z 1,z 2,...,z n > <z 1,z 2,...,z n > Usng ths generalzaton the followng theorem shows how to obtan cycle ndex p of σ, used n prevous theorem. Theorem 4.2. Let p P n be an arbtrary partton and let σ S n,p. Let σ α 1 α 2...α m be a decomposton of σ nto dsjont cycles. Let the length of α be k, 1 m. The cycle ndex monomal f p m ( ) z 1 z 2 k 2 z k f e(z) z 1 k 1 of the correspondng σ s gven by m1 z f e(z )/<z 1,z 2,...,z m > <z 1,z 2,...,z m > z m k m Proof. The cycle of length k n σ nduces the product of cycles n σ wth the cycle ndex monomal z k f e(z ) z. The product of permutatons wth cycle f p.
