Also included in this collection are some of the better known companies of Texas. An index to this collection is located at the Reference Desk. This is a directory of value to corporations, investors, agencies, and individuals who participate in any form of international finance or commerce. International directory of designers, accessory companies, textile companies, fragrance lines, and those associated with the fashion industry. Fashion Resource Directory. (REF TT 495 E ). This source provides directory information for those interested in the merchandising industry. Financial and Operating Results of Departmental and Specialty Stores. (REF HF 5465 U4 F55). Hoover's Handbook of American Business. (Index Table 6). Profiles of 500 major U.S. enterprises, including 24 governmental and nonprofit organizations. Investext. (Computer terminal. Reference Department) Full-text computerized index of industry and company reports. Men's and Boys' Wear Specialty Stores. (REF HD 9940 U3 D48). Only specialty stores with an annual volume of $500,000 or more are eligible to be listed in this directory. Listings indicate sales volume, number of stores, price lines, off-price brands indicator, activewear retailer indicator, resident buyers and key executive, buying, merchandising and administrative management. This set consists of seven titles, Bank and Finance (3 vols.), Industrial (2 vols.), International (2 vols.), Municipal and Government (2 vols.), OTC (1 vol.), Public Utilities (2 vols.) and Transportation (1 vol.). Information about each company includes a brief corporate history, a list of subsidiaries, business and products, officers and directors, comparative income statements, balance sheets statistics and description of outstanding securities. Sheldon's Retail Directory of the United States and Canada and Phelon's Resident Buyers and Merchandise Brokers. (REF HF S52) Standard and Poor's Corporation Records. (Index Table 6). Comparable to Moody's, S&P's Corporation Records provides the same basic corporate profile and 10-K data. The advantages to S&P are that it is arranged alphabetically and is updated quarterly. New York Stock Exchange American Stock Exchange Over-the-Counter Each two page company profile gives fundamental position, recent developments, earnings and balance sheet data, capitalization prospects, etc. For each profile read the summary, current outlook, important development, and business summary. Directory of European Retailers. (formerly Stores of the World Directory.) (REF HF 54 G7 S8). Value Line Investment Survey. (Reference Desk).

4 Value Line is an investment advisory service which is updated weekly. Value Line contains a summary and index (located at the Reference Desk), a selection and opinion section (located on Index Table 8) and ratings and reports (located at the Reference Desk). VL analyzes stocks in major industries, contains charts, statistics, and explanatory text. By using the summary and index section, information can be located by company or by industry. Previous years of Value Line from 1982 to date are filed with the periodicals on microfiche in the microform reading room. Ward's Business Directory. (Index Table 6). Volumes I & II provide current company information in a alphabetical order. Information given includes financial figures, number of employees, SIC numbers, descriptions of products and services offered, and immediate parent, if applicable. Volume III is a geographic listing of companies by zip code within state. Volume IV ranks companies within their respective SIC numbers. Who Owns Whom: North American, Continental Europe, United Kingdom. (Index Table 6). WOW works as a convenient guide to company ownerships. It is a great source for finding up-to-date information on parent and subsidiary relationships. The North American volume has 4 sections. Section 1 and 2 lists transnational parents from the U.S. and Canada. Section 3 provides a list of foreign parents and section 4 is an index of subsidiaries and associates and their parent company. Women's and Children's Wear Speciality Stores. (REF HD 9940 U3 D46). Specialty apparel store companies with an annual volume of $500,000 or more and children's wear at $250,000 or more are eligible to be listed in this directory. Listing include sales volume, number of stores, price lines, product lines, size categories, off-price brand's indicator, resident buyer's and key executive, buying, merchandising and administrative management. 5 With the subtitle, "The Irreverent Guide to Corporate American," Everybody's Business gives interesting summaries on a number of companies including information on what they do, what they own, etc. Also see the "Corporate Background" provided in S&P's Corporation Records or the "History" section available in the company reports of Moody's Manuals. Periodical and newspaper indexes are also excellent places to search for company and corporate histories. INDEXES Periodicals Business Periodicals Index, (Index Table 5). Indexes articles in most business journals in such fields as accounting, public relations, management, etc. BPI is arranged alphabetically by subject and each entry provides complete bibliographic information. Companies are listed by name. The Clothing and Textile Arts Index, (REF. TT 507 C6). Indexes articles from serials and periodicals dealing with clothing and textiles, specifically the behavioral, historic and artistic study and use of clothing and textiles. F & S Index (Predicasts), (Index Table 4). Each volume contains industry information (colored pages) and company information (white pages). F&S Index citations covers both domestic and international companies and their products. Other topics covered are corporate acquisitions and mergers, new products, technological innovations, marketing ventures, and social and political factors affecting corporations and industries. F & S Index International (Predicasts), (Index Table 5). InfoTrac. Computer Terminals, Reference. InfoTrac is a multidiscipline index to current periodical and newspaper articles. InfoTrac indexes thousands of journals and has three databases: National Newspaper Index, General Periodicals Index-A, and Government Publications Index. PROMT, (Predicasts Overview of Markets and Technology) (Index Table 5). The abstracts provided include statistical information on industry data, market technology, acquisitions and mergers and the global economy. Many of the PROMT abstracts contain tables indicating market

6 share, export and import activity, volume of sales, company rankings, industry or company comparative data and economic outlook. Newspapers Newsbank (Located at the end of the microfilm shelving.) NewsBank is a microfiche collection which provides information collected from the contents of newspapers from over 100 cities around the country. NewsBank is also available on CD-ROM. Business NewsBank. (NewsBank Electronic Index) (Located in the Reference area.) NewsBank Electronic Index is NewsBank on CD-ROM. The Business NewsBank can be accessed from the NewsBank Electronic Index menu. Business NewsBank is an index to 600 news-papers including the Waco Tribune-Herald and 27 other Texas newspapers and 200 business journals including the Austin Business Journal, Dallas/Fort Worth Business, Business Journal of the Permian Basin, and the Houston Business Journal. Business NewsBank is great for locating company information, especially on "mom & pop" businesses. Business NewsBank can be used to locate information on public and private companies and subsidiaries and affiliates. New York Times Index (REF AI 21 N44). The NYT Index is a subject index to the New York Times newspaper which is available on microfilm. Each entry in the NYT Index begins with a brief abstract of the article followed by section number, date of publication, page and column. Wall Street Journal (REF HG 1 W26). Wall Street Journal Index (Index Table 5). Wall Street Journal/Barron's Index (Index Table 5). WSJ Index has two sections: 1) Corporate News and 2) General News. The Barron's Index was added to the WSJ Index in Houston Post Index (REF AI 21 H68x). Washington Post Index (REF AI W33 W36). Moody's Industry Review. (Index Table 7). INDUSTRY INFORMATION Moody's Industry Review is a looseleaf service with weekly updates. MIR contains comprehensive statistical data for 4,000 companies. Companies in each industry are ranked by size in revenues or net income; profitability by operating margin and return on capital; market evaluation of the stock by price/earnings ratio and yield; and price behavior of the stock, by Moody's 7-year and 12 month price scores.

7 Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys. 2 volumes. (Reference Desk and Index Table 7). The Industry Surveys is published annually and is updated quarterly. The publication contains the Basic Analysis and Current Analysis for each industry surveyed. The Basic Analysis is an annual overview of the industry and the Current Analysis which is issued quarterly, provides a brief outlook for the industry. Industry Surveys also includes Trend & Projections and the Earnings Supplement. The latest edition of S&P Industry Surveys is available at the Reference Desk, and from 1978 on, S&P Industry Surveys are located in the reference collection under the call number, REF HC S74. Statistical Reference Index. (Located in the Government Documents Department, Moody Library) A source for business statistics, articles, and reports. This is a microfiche collection. U.S. Industrial Outlook. U.S. Department of Commerce. (Index Table 7). A handy volume for information on recent trends and outlook (for about 5 years) in over 350 individual industries. The short narrative with statistics usually contains discussions of changes in supply and demand for each industry, developments in domestic and overseas markets, price changes, employment trends, and capital investment.
