3 Flights All students must complete the Travel Information Form and register ISOS MyTrips travel locator. Group Flights: Arrive at least four hours before the flight departs. Verify that connecting flights arrive on the correct day, at least four hours before the group flight departs Independent Travelers: Coordinate your own ground transportation upon arrival Detailed information on when to arrive and where to meet the rest of the group will be provided. Packing: Check with your domestic & international airline for specific baggage restrictions & fees Pack one carry-on for the signature seminar or the orientation hotel (including valuables) Pack one larger suitcase for the semester (your checked luggage) DO NOT pack items not easily replaced (birth certificate, social security card, etc.)
4 Arrivals Signature Seminar Group flight arrives on January 6 th Pack one carry-on for the seminar Your checked luggage will be stored at the SU London center for the duration of the seminar You will arrive in London in time to meet the rest of the group for orientation London Group Arrival Group flight arrives January 17 th London staff will meet you at the airport Buses will take you from the airport to the orientation hotel or pre-arranged housing
5 Orientation Attendance is mandatory for all on-site orientation meetings General Orientation (includes safety overview) Living in London (pre-arranged & independent housing) Academic Orientation During this time, you will also have the opportunity to get your Student ID & Access Card, attend a walking tour, and enjoy a Welcome Dinner with students, faculty, and staff
6 Housing On-campus housing must be canceled by December 2 nd Independent: Students stay in a hotel the first 4 days while looking for a flat List of agencies in London provided Budget $1,000 - $1,200 per person for security deposit Students receive a housing allowance twice during the semester to pay for rent ( 175/week), which is allocated on-site to students Pre-Arranged: Students move in directly upon arrival Cleaned weekly, bed linens changed Buy or bring your own towels Utilities included Free limited WiFi provided
7 Health Preparations Before Departure: Discuss continued medical/immunization/mental health treatment with your doctor. Dental Exam Compile all medical/health information and bring it with you in case of a medical emergency Traveling with medication: If you are currently taking medication, continue to take it overseas You CANNOT mail medication bring enough for your entire time abroad Pack all your medication in your carry-on only Medication must be in original containers with a copy of your prescription Notify SUA s Assistant Director of Student Services of special storage requirements for medication Questions: Contact Assistant Director of Student Services, Bridget Hughes Demorest brhughes@syr.edu

10 Technology Cell Phones: Bring your US phone for use pre- and postsemester travel Students can purchase a prepaid cellular phone plan or a SIM card for an unlocked U.S. phone Many apps provide free texting, calling, & video chatting with WiFi (Whatsapp, Viber, Skype, etc.) Using Your Devices Abroad: Single voltage appliances will need a converter You will need a plug adapter for all appliances Pack all valuable electronic items in your carry on only
