4 USC Overseas Health Insurance Coverage Conditions Your overseas insurance plan covers you ONLY for program dates as published by Annenberg Do not follow the dates published by your overseas university or overseas study abroad provider If you fall ill or get injured overseas outside of those dates, USC will not be able to assist 4

5 How can I get extra coverage? Contact the USC Student Health Insurance office and request coverage extension Valerie Hill: vhill@usc.edu (213) USC Engemann Student Health Center (lower level) Include your travel days to ensure coverage from start to finish If you are graduating in December 2016 and doing personal travel once the program ends, please note that USC will not allow you to extend coverage as you will no longer be a student. The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) has health and travel insurance coverage. Strongly consider purchasing one before you leave. 5

6 How much does it cost? If your extended travel dates fall within the first and/or final calendar month of your program, there should be no extra charge Example 1: You arrive in your host country on August 15, and the first day of the program August 18. Example 2: Your program ends on December 11, and you re returning to the US on December 21. Both of the examples above won t incur an additional charge. If your extended travel dates fall outside of the first and/or final calendar month of your program, you will be charged $92 for each additional calendar month Example 1: You arrive in your host country on July 28 but the first day of the program is August 5. You will pay an additional $92 for the month of July. Example 2: Your program ends on December 23 but you re returning to the US on January 2. You will pay an additional $92 for the month of January. 6

7 What about USC international students? All international students at USC are required to take USC Student Health Insurance (and pay $1,102), so requesting additional coverage will not be necessary. The USC Student Health Insurance Policy will cover international students for the entire fall semester term. 7

8 Remember Though While USC will do its very best to advise you if you become ill or injured outside of the program dates, USC cannot guarantee assistance Request your coverage extension before you leave the US If you purchased an ISIC card (International Student Identity Card) or your parents plan has sufficient overseas insurance coverage, you may not need to request coverage extension through USC Please verify this information with your parents or with the ISIC website. Annenberg International Programs cannot do this for you It is not mandatory to extend your coverage, but it is the most prudent piece of advice that our office can give to students who plan on arriving early or leaving late 8
