6 IMAGINING THE INSURANCE OF TOMORROW while remaining true to our values: of proximity, loyalty and utility RAPHAËL APPERT Chairman of Crédit Agricole Assurances As France s leading insurer, Crédit Agricole Assurances is growing with a constant concern to adapt to today s macroeconomic and regulatory environment, whilst serving its customers as best it can. As France s leading insurer 1, Crédit Agricole Assurances is growing with a constant concern to adapt to today s macroeconomic and regulatory environment, whilst serving its customers as best it can was a year of growth, marked by the business moving more towards personal protection and general insurance. Up 1.2% in a year to 30.8, revenue grew significantly in each of these business lines: it reached 3.6 in general insurance, a 5% increase on 2015, and 3.2 in personal risk/credit /group insurance, up 9%. In savings/pensions, an area that has been suffering from the impact of persistently low interest rates, Crédit Agricole Assurances posted revenues of 24, virtually stable compared to 2015.Life insurance assets under management reached 269 at the end of 2016, up 3.5% in one year. The effectiveness of the integrated bank insurance model was therefore confirmed once again, thanks to the strength of the Crédit Agricole regional bank networks, LCL and the Crédit Agricole group banks in France and in Europe. These good performances have enabled Crédit Agricole Assurances to complete the first step towards achieving the targets set in its Strategic Ambition 2020 MediumTerm Plan, initiated by the Crédit Agricole Group in March In order to accelerate the diversification of the product mix, Crédit Agricole Assurances is aiming for 10% growth in savings/ pensions assets under management, combined with a 25% increase in the share of unitlinked products, 35% growth in turnover in personal risk/creditor/group insurance and 27% in general insurance revenue. This plan reasserts and reinforces the full integration of Crédit Agricole Assurances within Crédit Agricole, making the insurance group one of the major players in the optimisation of intragroup synergies : a change of dimension by bringing in house the regional banks group insurance contracts, reinforcement of the growth dynamic across all customer segments in general insurance, development of strong positions on group pension plans thanks in particular to the commercial partnership with Amundi in order to offer large corporate clients a single, global approach to savings schemes and pension plans for their employees. 161% of Solvency II ratio* *Evaluated at 31/12/2016 based on the standard formula of the new Solvency II prudential regime 1 Sources: La Tribune de l Assurance, 16 November 2016 and L Argus de l Assurance, 16 December 2016, data at end 2015.
7 FRÉDÉRIC THOMAS Chief Executive Officer of Crédit Agricole Assurances Crédit Agricole Assurances is applying its expertise to new challenges, such as the increase in life expectancy, the financing of pensions and healthcare costs and environmental issues. with the dual requirement of innovating in its offerings whilst remaining close to its customers in revenue 269 assets under management +28 million policies in the portfolio Crédit Agricole Assurances has strong results and a sound financial structure : the group net profit for 2016 was 1.4. The Solvency II capital coverage ratio stood at 161% at the end of 2016, reflecting the direction taken by the group over the last few years in terms of business lines, investment policy and liability structure in order to adapt to the new prudential regulations. In particular in 2016, Crédit Agricole Assurances again issued 1 of subordinated bonds on the market with the aim of financing its business whilst maintaining a prudential ratio in line with its ambitions. As a major economic player, Crédit Agricole Assurances is applying its expertise to the new challenges facing society, such as the increase in life expectancy, the methods of financing of pensions and healthcare costs and environmental issues. As an insurance group, this commitment involves, first and foremost, devising products tailored to customers new needs. In line with the Crédit Agricole group s values, Crédit Agricole Assurances is undertaking this task Crédit Agricole Assurances s societal commitment also extends to the funding of carers associations and voluntary bodies as well as supporting its own employees who are carers. In November 2016, Crédit Agricole Assurances received the prize for the best adaptation of working conditions in the «Entreprise et salariés aidants» (Companies and EmployeeCarer) awards organised by the Alteus Conseil consulting firm in partnership with AgircArrco to reward innovative initiatives in this field. Crédit Agricole Assurances takes account of environmental, social and governance factors in its analyses and investment decisions. Priority is given to societal issues in particular (healthcare, renewable energies, financing of the economy), which is entirely consistent with the areas in which Crédit Agricole excels (housing, environmental economics, agriculture and the food industry, healthcareaging). Finally, the transformation of Crédit Agricole Assurances implies taking account of changes in modes of consumption, with high demand from customers for the digitization of sales and management processes, whilst retaining the traditional local retail services. The Crédit Agricole group is responding to that demand with its Ambition 2020 plan and proposing a model that offers every degree of choice: from 100% human to 100% digital. Crédit Agricole Assurances is a major player in this programme, which fits in perfectly with its Customer project and the achievement of synergies with the Crédit Agricole group.
8 CRÉDIT AGRICOLE GROUP, A WHOLE BANK JUST FOR YOU Thanks to its universal retail banking model closely linking its retail banks with its specialist business lines which it has reasserted in its new signature «A whole bank just for you», Crédit Agricole supports its customers in all their personal and professional projects by offering them a wide range of services: everyday banking, loans, savings, insurance, asset management, real estate, finance leasing, factoring, finance and investment banks, issuer and investor services. Serving 52 million customers all over the world, it is also distinguished by its distribution model, the multichannel retail bank, and the mobilisation of its 138,000 employees, which make Crédit Agricole the bank for customer relations. With its cooperative and mutualist foundations and its 9.3 million members and 31,000 directors of local and regional banks, Crédit Agricole is able to rely on a model of organisation that ensures its stability and sustainability. It also draws strength from its values of transparency, proximity, responsibility and openness to the world and local specificities, which it has been cultivating for 120 years. Crédit Agricole s corporate social responsibility policy is at the heart of its identity as a useful, durably loyal bank. It is integrated into its entire offering and runs through all its business lines. It is a key factor in its overall performance and a powerful vector of innovation. Which is why the Crédit Agricole group is reinforcing its positions as a leader year on year. It is the biggest financer of the French economy and France s leading insurer. It is also the biggest bank insurer in Europe, the leading European assets manager and the second biggest player in the world for green financing. N o 1 N o 1 N o 1 financer of the French economy Bank insurer in France European asset manager 50 countries 52 million customers 138,000 employees 9.3 millions members 31,000 directors
9 CREDIT AGRICOLE GROUP STRUCTURE 9.3 million members form the foundation of Crédit Agricole s cooperative organisation. They hold shares in the capital of the 2,471 local banks and elect their representatives every year: almost 31,000 directors, who are entrusted with expressing their expectations within the group. The local banks hold the majority of the capital in the 9 regional banks. The regional banks are regional cooperative banks that offer their customers a complete range of products and services. The body responsible for reflecting on, debating and taking the overarching decisions on the direction the Group should take is the Fédération Nationale du Crédit Agricole. Through the holding company, SAS Rue La Boétie, the regional banks are the majority shareholder (56.6%) of Crédit Agricole S.A. which, in conjunction with its specialised subsidiaries, coordinates the strategies of the various business lines in France and internationally.
