Foundations of Banking Risk 13-15/5/2015 (24 hours) International Certificate for Banking Risk & Regulation (ICBRR) 18-21/5/2015 (32 hours) From the Board of Directors to front-line staff, an organization must ensure that all employees understand the basics of the financial system and management of risks that their institutions undertake. The purpose of this training, supported by GARP s workbook Foundations in Banking Risk, revised and updated 2015, is to ensure a core understanding of risk-related issues so that employees are better equipped to recognize any problems or trends and address them appropriately. By the end of the seminar you will: have improved your knowledge and understanding of the risk management process from international experience be to demonstrate a broad knowledge of: risk management methodologies (credit, market and operational risk) governance structure regulatory requirements provided by Basel committee Functions & Forms of Banking Managing Banks Banking Regulation Credit Risk Market Risk Operational Risk Insurance Risk Regulatory Capital & Supervision under Basel II/III Islamic Finance (optional) Entrants to risk management Senior staff wanting to update their knowledge Support, front-, middle- and back-office staff, IT, Audit & HR Upon the completion of this course, participants can take a 60-question, multiple-choice test that tests their understanding of the subject matter. Candidates who receive at least a 70% pass mark will receive a certificate of competence from GARP. This program delivers a deep, qualitative understanding of risk management methodologies, governance structures for the management of risk banks, and the regulatory principles outlined by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Successful candidates will be better prepared to recognize potential problems associated with risk assessment, mitigation and management. To complete the program and to obtain the International Certificate in Banking Risk and Regulation, candidates will be required to pass a single exam that consists of 80 multiple choice questions and will last 170 minutes. This program should be considered to be a review class. Candidates will be expected to have studied the materials prior to the class to enable them to reach the standard required to succeed in the final exam. Materials will be distributed to candidates at least 4 weeks prior to the review class.
4 RISK MANAGEMENT SEMINARS Advanced Bank Analysis 29-30/6/2015 (16 hours) A two-day advanced case study-based seminar which drills down into the financial statements of banks in order to identify and quantify risks of more complex business lines. The seminar will also consider the qualitative issues that need to be considered when financial information is less than comprehensive. At the end of the seminar, delegates will be able to: Analyse in greater detail and depth the quality of the financial information Identify and quantify exposures where all or part of the exposure is off-balance sheet, including derivatives and structured finance vehicles Evaluate the bank s risk profile tolerance and appetite Recognise best practice in financial reporting, including new GAAP/IFRS requirements and Basel 2.5 and Basel III disclosures. Forensically analyse the assets of the bank, in particular NPLs Analyse regulatory capital Review of Bank Analysis Objectives of bank analysis Financials / Accounting Information Reporting assets and liabilities Ratings Using ratings as part of the analysis Business Risk Financial Risk Franchise & Stakeholders Early warning signs Corrective actions Non-financial indicators Basel III Accord New standards for Capital, Liquidity, and Systemic Risk Management 18-19/5/2015 (16 hours) This intensive, practice-driven and interactive session introduces, discusses and analyzes the implications the macro-prudential regulatory regime has on the future of banking, risk management and the risk manager. At the same time Basel III seeks to address the effects of the systemic risks that globally interconnected financial institutes propagate. Understand the role of Basel III in the global bank regulatory framework Define how changes in credit, market, and other types of risk capital fit in the new regulatory environment Understand the impact liquidity has on risk management practices Understand the macro-prudential framework introduced by Basel III and its impact on banks Examine the impact of the new changes on the national banking system Problems of Basel II in the developing world The evolution of Basel III Securitization, CDOs, and the role of the rating agencies Changes to credit risk capital Changes to market risk capital requirements Changes to the operational risk capital requirement Exercises and case studies Corporate bankers, credit and loan professionals, risk managers, analysts. 5 RISK MANAGEMENT SEMINARS Advanced Credit & Financial Analysis 12-13/10/2015 (16 hours) This intensive and interactive course includes the latest practical and theoretical developments in credit risk analysis, and offers realistic case studies and group activities to reinforce concepts and relationships in this area. The primary aim is to provide a comprehensive credit analysis of entities within a portfolio. Assess a company s business and financial performance Understand a company s capital structure using both qualitative and quantitative tools Learn how rating agency and third party indicators are incorporated in the credit process Explain the characteristics of securitization Examine corporate distress and the remedial management process Corporate analysis IFRS and the difference with local GAAP Ratio analysis Cash for flow analysis Pricing (RAROC) Intermediate and experienced credit professionals. Corporate Debt Restructuring 9-10/12/2015 (16 hours) This course covers the basic understanding required to consider and participate a corporate restructure plan; the course then progresses to the practical aspects of measuring the potential gains and losses of restructuring and liquidation. The course will use real life examples, from the EU, to enable participants to obtain an understanding of the legal parameters and the financial consequences of restructuring. Understand & anticipate the credit risks leading to corporate debt distress Appreciate the concept and meaning of debt restructuring Analyze the particular legislative requirements Learn the key elements in any restructuring proposal Evaluate the alternatives Overview of the Distressed Debt Market International Concepts of Debt Restructuring The Rankings & Priorities of Debt Insolvency Regimes The Practical Application of Restructuring Creating the Plan Executing the Plan This course is designed to enhance the skills of intermediate level credit or senior lending officers.
