You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Sandy just got her health insurance card. She is talking to Pauline about the coverage of her health insurance plan. Sandy: Our medical card is already available at the HR office. Have you gotten yours, too? Pauline: No, I haven t. What does our plan include? Sandy: It includes everything except coverage on treatment for psychological problems. Pauline: Does the company shoulder all the expenses? Sandy: Unfortunately, the company pays 100% only if our expenses are above the amount which is $500. Pauline: I guess this is how the company deals with recession. We have to pay first before we get full coverage. Sandy: The good news is that the benefit is $100,000. Pauline: That s great, but I don t want to be sick that often to arrive at that amount. Do they also cover dental expenses? Sandy: It says here that dental expenses are covered as long as they are under surgery and when it is a necessary procedure. Pauline: Great. I want to take a better look at that. Can you come with me to the HR office? Sandy: Sure. Choices: a. maximum b. limitation c. premium d. medical Page 3
4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Verb Form Present Perfect (5-6 minutes) General Description: The Present Perfect Tense expresses an action that has been completed and is currently being discussed. It is formed by an auxiliary verb (has/have) and the past participle of the verb. She has gotten her medical card today. auxiliary verb past participle of the verb get Examples: I have gone to the clinic to get a medical certificate. Stan has reached the out-of-pocket maximum that s why the company is paying 100% for his medical needs. His daughter is not covered because he hasn t included her in the plan. Remember: The Present Perfect Tense is based on past actions while the Simple Present Tense expresses actions that are repeated or dictate facts and generalizations. The Present Perfect Tense is used only when the subject is being talked about in the present. Examples: John has given the required documents to the HR to fix his medical insurance. The company has provided the health insurance card upon our regularization. We have visited the nurse s station for the annual check-up. I haven t obtained my health insurance card because I was absent yesterday. He has called in sick tonight. Comprehension Check: Please transform the following sentence in its present perfect tense.
