GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Verb Form Present Progressive (5-6 minutes) General Description: The present continuous tense (also called the present progressive tense) is commonly used in English for actions happening right now, or in the near future. Shown below are a few rules for forming the present progressive tense with regular verbs. Forming the present continuous tense This tense is formed using two components: the verb BE (in the present tense), and the -ING form of a verb. Here are the rules, using the example verb sing : Subject BE -ING Form I am singing You are singing She is singing He is singing It Is singing We are singing They are singing Remember: With most verbs, you can simply add -ING to the end of the verb. Examples: 1. Laura and Harry are (split) splitting their tax deductions. 2. Laura is (claim) claiming both children as her tax deduction. 3. Harry is (use) using their interest payment as his tax deduction. Page 4
