Yes No If you drive or own a car these worksheets will help you to learn about documents you need to drive in the U.K. You will learn some useful words to do with driving and you will be able to practise reading and writing about driving using the past simple. If you have a driving licence from another country you can usually use it to drive in the U.K. for 12 months. For more information look at this website: British Council
2 Read this information about driving in the U.K. Full Licence Provisional Licence When you drive a car in the UK you must: have a valid driving licence be insured to drive the car. A full driving licence shows that you have passed a driving test and you know how to drive. A provisional driving licence means that you are learning to drive and you must have someone in the car with you who can teach you to drive. You must also be insured to drive a car. You must buy car insurance for yourself or you must make sure that the owner of the car you are driving has insurance for you. This means that if you have an accident the insurance company usually pays for the damage to the other person s car. When you own a car in the U.K. every year you must; pay for road tax and display a tax disc in your car get an M.O.T test and have an MOT certificate (If your car is 3 years or older). Every year you must pay tax to drive your car on the road. You must put a tax disc in the window of your car to show that you have paid this tax. The government uses the money from road tax to build and repair the roads. When a car is 3 years old it must have its first MOT test. The car must then have an MOT test every year. This test checks that the car is safe to drive and that it doesn t damage the environment. British Council
