THE insurance Insurance products At Vanarama Insurance, we don t just offer standard insurance, we also have some exciting specialist products to tell you about. From our comparison platform to rural insurance, we ve can keep you covered in a number of ways: 2018 Short-Term Van Insurance Need to drive a vehicle that isn t yours, or insure a temporary driver on your own? If you don t want the hassle or expense of adjusting your existing annual policy, temporary insurance cover can offer a cost-effective and flexible option. Policies are available from 1-28 days, and because the policy is separate from any other insurance policy you have you won t have to worry about it affecting your no claims discount. Compare Online You can browse annualised insurance quotes from our panel of insurers, and compare policies available to you simply and quickly. In just a few minutes, you ll have all the information you could need to find the perfect policy for you and your business. Your Insurance Covers GAP Insurance Covers Finance Gap Insurance Vehicle value depreciation could mean there is a risk you will owe more to the Finance Company than the Insurance Company pay-out if the vehicle is written off or stolen. Finance Gap Insurance allows you to insure against the difference (up to a maximum of 20,000) between your Insurance Company pay-out and the amount you owe to the Finance Company. Rural Insurance If you live in the heart of rural UK, you understand that the vehicles on the roads are its lifeblood and so do we. We now offer an innovative vehicle insurance product that allows you to combine up to 8 vehicles including commercial vehicles, private cars, and even motorised horseboxes into ONE simple policy. This is not available on comparison websites, but it is available through Vanarama Insurance in partnership with Rural Insurance. 6 Everyone was polite and incredibly helpful, almost as if they couldn t do enough to help.

THE practical tips Multi Year Insurance {STOP} {the} {press} Insurance prices are on the rise Van insurance costs are rising with policy premiums in the UK facing an average price rise of 14.1% in the past year that means premiums of around 1,344. With figures like that, it s no wonder van drivers are looking to beat the rise, and Vanarama is right there to help with our premiumfreezing Multi-Year Insurance policies. Vanarama Content Editor Tom Roberts reports. Insurance premium rises continue to hit the UK market. In April 2017, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) recorded an 8% increase in motor premiums in the 1st quarter of 2017, while the motor insurer ERS stated that it expects motor insurance premiums to rise by 20% for a standard vehicle by January That s huge, and represents an average increase of nearly 70 to the cost of insurance that s just over half a weekly shop for the average 2.4-children family! 8 Great-a-rama!
Multi Year Insurance THE your journey How fast are insurance costs rising? Research from Consumer Intelligence has shown that the average cost of van insurance is increasing at a faster rate than car insurance due, primarily, to the higher cost of claim pay outs (and for the equallyimportant reason that insurance may have to cover lost business as a result of owners not being able to work). Van owners using their vehicle for work usually face lower average costs than those using them for pleasure because workers are generally more careful with their van as they re more reliant on it. Ian Hughes, Chief Executive of Consumer Intelligence, said: Van drivers pay higher insurance bills than car drivers, and with more people using their vans for work that adds to the costs of doing business. Choosing the appropriate cover is vital when keeping costs down and opting for carriage of own goods will reduce premiums. However, the trend is up across all segments of the market. Multi-Year Insurance Policies Do you want protection from future insurance price rises? It s not hard to understand why we decided to work with our underwriters to create Multi-Year Insurance policies. With this unique product, we can exclusively offer Vanarama customers a premium guarantee on van insurance policies, but what does that mean? Simply, the annual cost of your insurance will not change from the day you buy it across the duration of your lease*. You could come to us right now to lease a van for three years, for example, and get a Multi-Year Insurance policy with a premium that doesn t change year-to-year this means: No rising costs* No nasty surprises Just total control and no distractions You focus on building your business, we ll make sure you get the best deal and keep you protected. This specialist insurance product is only available to Vanarama leasing customers, and can only be purchased by giving us a call on and speaking to one of our friendly specialists. *Vanarama van lease customers only. Subject to no changes in your driving history (e.g. licence points, fault claims, disqualification, etc.), and the nature of the insurance risk you present (e.g. moving house, changing jobs, etc.). While changes introduced by government taxation (such as Insurance Premium Tax) and statutory regulations or introduced by industry regulators, are excluded. Call the insurance team on Monday to Friday 9
THE FAQs Have a question? What can I do to reduce the cost of my van insurance? There are a number of ways to reduce the cost of your van insurance. Storing your van in a garage or on a driveway lowers the risk of accident or vandalism and security features added to a vehicle will also lower cover costs (tracking devices, alarms and immobilisers). Paying a higher voluntary excess on your van insurance policy is another way to lower your premium. I m a builder and keep my tools in my van most of the time. Are they covered by my insurance? Levels of cover vary from policy to policy, but you ll often need to take out separate insurance for tools or goods left in your van. Make sure you know exactly what your policy covers. I need to buy a van for work. Will the size of it have an impact on my insurance premium? In general, the larger and heavier the van you choose, the more expensive the premium will be because heavier vans are considered to be harder to drive and more expensive to fix. There are usually 5 standard categories of van. In ascending order of size, these are: Car-derived van- these vans look like normal cars from the front, but the back windows are filled in and the back seats removed to create a cargo area Micro-vans- these have the shape of much larger vans but are the size of a medium-sized car Small or light vans these are usually a little larger than a car, with double doors at the back and sometimes a raised roof Medium or panel van perhaps the most typical white van, these vehicles include Ford s famous Transit Large van these carry very large loads, and often have a double axel at the back Size isn t the only thing that will dictate a van s insurance group. Other factors include: The engine capacity and type (petrol or diesel) The purchase price The cost of replacement parts (which is often strongly related to the purchase price) The security measures installed on the van, such as deadlocks to protect your cargo, alarm systems or even tracker devices I only use my van for personal use; can I still obtain a quote? Yes, we supply quotes for people who want cover for carriage of own goods, social & domestic pleasure use. Who is the vehicle registered to? The vehicle is registered to you the client, but owned by the leasing company. What additional extras can be offered? Depending on what you re looking to insure you will be able to cover Tools in Transit (3 levels), Goods in Transit, Key Cover (2 levels), Motor Legal Expenses, Excess Protection, Gadget Insurance (2 levels). Is there an extra cost if I request my documents again? No, no additional charge. Do you offer any driver policies? Absolutely, the premium is likely to be higher due to a range of drivers on the policy e.g. age, convictions, not being used to the vehicle which all represent a higher risk. Cancellation Fees If cancelling within the cancellation period (14 days of taking out a policy) our charge is If you are cancelling a policy out of the cancellation period the cost is per policy. Can I use my NCB on more than 1 vehicle? No, you can t. However, some insurers give you the option to mirror your NCB. Should I protect my NCB? This is up to you. Protecting your earned no claims bonus will cost you more in premium, but if you do have a single claim then this allows you to keep your earned NCB. You will still have to tell a new insurer about the claim at your next renewal. Is there an extra charge paying by direct debit or credit card? There is no charge for card payments, but unfortunately we don t take American Express. When is my first payment taken? A payment of 20% is taken on the day of setting up the policy and then 9 additional payments for the balance, the 1st payment of which will be collected 30 days after inception. What is the most common usage for a van? If you drive your van to and from work and transport business related goods such as your own tools this would be classified as Carriage of own Goods. Ideal for plumbers, decorators, window cleaners etc. There will be no cover for loss of, or damage to any goods being carried. Will I need Public Liability Insurance? It is not compulsory, however generally required as it provides your business cover against legal claims. If you are a small business or self-employed sole Don t forget! If you have other questions or to contact the Insurance team, please insuranceservices@vanarama.co.uk or call Your staff were on point and I got the answers I needed.
We have the answer THE FAQs trader, a company director or an employee then you could all potentially be blamed for injury to a third party i.e. a member of the public or damage to the property. Max number of drivers on a van policy? We can arrange up to 4 named drivers in addition to the policyholder. What categories of use are there? Social Only, Carriage of Own Goods, Carriage of Goods for hire and reward and Haulage. For how long do I need to have been driving using a valid driving licence? There is no minimum period as long as you have a valid driving license. What are uninsured losses? Examples include the policy excess, the cost of a hire van and any medical expenses you may incur. However these can all be covered as long as you are not at fault. Can I add a temporary driver to the policy? Yes. A policy can be altered after it starts but there is an arrangement fee of 25 for each change. A change that alters the risk of that policy may change the premium. This can be higher or lower depending upon the change. For a temporary driver it may be more cost effective to take out a short term insurance policy just for that driver, rather than altering the annual policy. We can offer this product as well. Can I get a temporary cover? Yes, we can offer this for either a maximum of up to 28 days or in 7-day blocks. There is eligibility criteria for drivers and premium costs vary. If I leave the keys in my vehicle am I covered on my vehicle insurance? No, you should take reasonable steps to ensure that your vehicle is locked and secured to prevent theft. Failure to do so could invalidate any claim you may have. Minimum Excess on a policy? Insurers all have a minimum excess, this does vary but is commonly around 100. You can choose to increase this by selecting to pay a voluntary excess in addition to this minimum excess. Using a voluntary excess does reduce the premium paid but you will have to decide how much you would be willing to incur before your insurance policy starts to pay out. of the vehicle, its appearance, or its value then the insurance company should be informed. We can normally provide a quote for such vehicles from our panel of insurers, but we may need to speak to them first on your behalf before we can confirm their premium to you. Can I pay using someone else s card? Yes, you will need to gain authority from the cardholder and they will need to give consent whilst on the phone making payment. Can I insure a young driver on my policy? It will depend on how young they are however if the driver is under 21 please let our advisors know early on. Will I be able to have insurance if I have convictions and have had multiple claims? We have had success in offering insurance to people with a range of circumstances e.g. Declined Insurance, Multiple Driving Convictions, Criminal Convictions and Multiple Claims. Would my insurance cover me if I were to travel abroad? Leased vehicles require comprehensive insurance to be in place for that vehicle at all times. Each insurer differs in terms of how long and what level of cover they will offer for overseas driving so you should check your cover carefully if you intend to take your vehicle abroad. How far in advance can I get a guaranteed quote. We can offer a guaranteed quote within 30 days of your insurance renewal. Do you accept NCB earned in a foreign country? It is not common for insurers to accept this but we can refer your individual circumstances to our insurers to see whether they will honour the years that you have built up. Can someone else drive my van if they have comprehensive cover on their own insurance? The individual will need to check on their own insurance policy to see whether they are covered under their own policy. Normally they will only be covered for third party on your vehicle - all leased vehicles need to be comprehensively insured when being driven. You may wish to consider taking out short term insurance for that driver for their usage of your vehicle, or adding them as a named driver. What modifications do we cover? At Vanarama we understand that your business may have specific needs from your vehicle and this may require modifications. If these modifications change the performance Call the insurance team on Monday to Friday 11
