There are 2 types of public health care: Reimbursement System ( Bismarckian or Mutual Insurance Model): Free choice of doctor Pay first and claim later (reimbursement) Care-in-Kind system ( Beveridge model or National Health Service ): Only in public hospitals and with state doctors For free (care-in-kind), no administration The Reimbursement System is an insurance model, Care-in-Kind isn t.

To answer this Expat & Co has developed a number of insurance solutions under the Chameleon Principle which offer different settings: Full cover ( 1st or Integral insurance) when you have no social security or a Care-in-Kind system, to offer you free choice doctor/hospital; Top-Up ( Additional insurance) where there is a reimbursement system in place; Sleeper when you have temporarily an employer policy, and you don t want to lose your medical underwriting/acceptation; You can switch from one system to another within the same policy. 7 Claims Handling N Medical Claims [download our Claims Manual] [download our USA Claims Manual] Hospitalisation: direct payment to all hospitals in the world willing to accept our payment guarantee; Outpatient claims: pay yourself & claim afterwards; In US: direct payment to all providers of the Olympus network ( ), outside the network: pay & claim. A 20% co-pay may be asked of you. N Other claims: find claim forms [here] N Send bills, payment proofs, prescriptions and claim form to Expat&Co: Per post (including the originals); Electronically (may be refused); Conditions for electronic claims : Scans/copies must be complete and well readable Keep the originals for at least 1 year (for questions or audits) Top-Up is only possible if first sent to Mutual health fund (send copies of all documents sent to Mutual fund + their reimbursement overview to Expat &Co)

8 Taxes and Administration Costs N European taxes are applied according to the country of the policyholder s address. Addresses outside Europe do not pay tax on Expat & Co policies. N Parafiscal taxes of 10% are applied in Belgium (RIZIV/INAMI tax): If insured s residence is in Belgium; AND he/she has Belgian social security (Belgian Mutual health fund); A further 9,25% additional to Belgian fiscal taxes is applied to the following covers: LP Hospital Plan All Assistance policies N Expat & Co charges an administration cost of 10 (5 in GSI) for every new policy certificate or change.

All international students, interns, scientists / researchers, teaching staff; Official au-pairs; Definition: unmarried, between 18 and 30, traveling max. 1 year to live with host family, helping the host family with childcare and light household tasks. She/he gets free board and lodging, as well as pocket money (no salary). The au-pair should attend language courses in the host country. An au-pair a nanny. With a European link (European or studying in Europe). N How to apply? 12 Product: Global Student Insurance N 2 VERSIONS, 2 SETTINGS Basic vs. Comprehensive Basic: compliant with the EACEA* minium requirements concerning Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus+. Comprehensive: extended version (content, baggage, better dental, better legal assistance, higher accident lump sums) Full Cover vs. Top-Up Full Cover: integral cover from 1st Top-Up: additional to a European social security (reimbursement model). Available only under two conditions: only within Europe AND when both host country and country of origin have a reimbursement model. 13 Product: Global Student Insurance GSI offers certainty and ease GSI covers students all over the world, of all nationalities, and if needed for longer periods; GSI insures students, without interruption, during vacation in the home country, up to 8 consecutive weeks (for medical: after reimbursement of local social security, if applicable); Collective insurances can also implement a clause that students who follow study periods or undertake fieldwork for research purposes in their home country will be covered during this period, after reimbursement of their home country social security, if such reimbursement applies.

14 Product: Global Student Insurance MODULE 1: Medical Care GSI covers necessary medical costs following an accident, illness or pregnancy; No maximum overall limit: you have unlimited cover; No deductible; As from 1st (full cover) or additional to social security (Top-Up); Details: no private rooms, except when medically necessary; pre-existing medical conditions are excluded: nevertheless, pregnancies < 6 months at commencement date are covered (EACEA requirement). sudden attacks or worsening of a chronical pre-existing illness are covered on condition that you can prove, with a report from your treating doctor, prior to effective date of the contract, that you can function normally while following regulary treatment or therapy. Dental: - basic 250 / year for urgent treatments; - comprehensive: 250 / claim for urgent treatments + 75 / year for prevention (as from 2nd policy year) Psychotherapy and physiotherapy: 12 sessions / year (further sessions following E&C approval)
