Anyone living and working in the Netherlands must arrange basic health insurance with an insurer who is registered in the Netherlands - within 4 months of arriving in the country. Alexander Beard International Benefits, Expacare and ONVZ have joined forces to offer a full international medical insurance plan which also provides compliant local cover in the Netherlands. The Choices NL Plan has been designed for expatriates who will be residing in the Netherlands - and must therefore meet the requirement to have local health cover - but who also want to enjoy the benefits of comprehensive international medical insurance. Expacare provides the INTERNATIONAL medical benefits and manages all claims which arise outside of the Netherlands. 6 How it works Setting up new policies Make sure you have your Dutch National Insurance Number. You will need to pay the Expacare and ONVZ premiums separately. Making claims outside the Netherlands (Expacare) When you receive treatment outside the Netherlands, the claim will need to be assessed by Expa For in-patient treatment, please call Expacare claims at least 5 days prior to the treatment date on +44 (0) For out-patient treatment, please complete a claims form which can be downloaded from and send this together with the invoice, receipt and any other relevant documentation. In an emergency, please call +44 (0) this number is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to help you with any emergency If your treatment originally started within the Netherlands but you then decide to return home for further treatment, please contact Expacare for guidance. Making claims within the Netherlands (ONVZ) When you receive treatment in the Netherlands, the invoice may either be sent directly to ONVZ or it may be sent to you. If you receive the invoice, you can submit this to ONVZ (by post or electronically) along with a Claim Form.
