1 Management To understand project management, it is important to understand the definition of a project: A project has two characteristics: 1. s have a beginning and an end. The beginning may be somewhat fuzzy as the idea evolves into a project. The end, however, should be clearly defined so that all project participants agree on what it means to be complete. 2. s produce a unique product. results can be either tangible or intangible. Work that is unique and temporary presents different challenges than managing ongoing operations. management provides this framework for managing projects. Examples of project management challenges include: Every project has different personnel needs. Accurate estimates are needed to evaluate potential projects. budgets rarely coincide with the organizational 12-month budget cycle.
