1 ROLE STATEMENT POSITION TITLE: Accountant REPORTS TO: Senior Accountant DATE: February 2018 ROLES REPORTING TO THIS ONE: Nil Purpose Statement: PRIMARY PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES The role of Financial Accountant is integral in effectively supporting the financial operations of MIL and in helping the finance team in achieving its vision as a business services unit - providing focus on maintaining an optimising reporting and control environment. The Accountant role is an essential part of the Finance team in order for the departments objectives and tasks to be met in a timely manner. The provision of assistance to the Financial Controller and Senior Accountant, plus other MIL staff ensures that all statutory obligations can be achieved. Performance of key Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations is an essential requirement of this role. Key objectives: Preparation of financial reports, budgets and any other relevant statements for MIL in conjunction with and for approval by the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller. Assist with all aspects of operational responsibility including month-end journals, monthly close off procedures, maintenance and reconciliation of investment portfolio and cash flow reporting. Financial Reporting including General Ledger Reconciliations, FBT, BAS, Income & Expenditure Statements, Balance Sheet Reporting, Accounts Receivable analysis and Accounts Payable reporting. Provide accounting/finance support and guidance to all MIL staff. Maintain Fixed Assets Register; and Provide accounting support to the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller as required. 2 KEY RESULT AREA (UP TO 6 MAJOR AREAS) WEIGHTING (% OF TIME SPENT) ROLE SPECIFIC GOALS AND MEASURES (WHAT DO YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE AND HOW IS IT MEASURED) Operational Responsibility 35% Budgeting 10% Monthly close-off occurs on schedule and with 100% accuracy and reconciliation, Monthly operating results are produced in specific time frames and are accurate and Monthly working paper file prepared for review within specific time frames. Assisting with analysis of financial data, actual cash flow, variances from Operating budget, aged debtors, reports and records, accounting for reserves, assets and other significant financial matters so that recommendations regarding financial management practice can be provided to the MIL Management team. Performing the month-end journal entries and other related monthly close off procedures. Providing support to the PIIOP Finance resources Audits and reconciliation reports are accurate and timely. Performing reconciliations for general ledger balance sheet account, bank account, inventory, non-current asset movements and MIL projects so that all financial information is up-to-date and accurate, any errors are identified, reconciliation reports can be produced and MIL have a strong understanding of their financial situation. Maintaining Fixed asset register and CIP spread sheet. Capitalising assets as and when acquired and or commissioned Assisting with preparation of quarterly landholder water invoices and other miscellaneous invoices Undertaking and finalise a weekly run of WEX selling payments. Assist in development of templates for budget owners to build their own budgets. Provision of assistance to budget owners. Assist in consolidation of all divisional budgets into single file so accurate forward planning can be achieved. Role Statement (frontline staff) Accountant Page 2 of 5

3 Financial reporting 35% Development and preparation of financial reports. Monthly operating results are produced in specific time frames and are accurate. Analysis of financial data, actual cash flow, variances from Operating budget, aged debtors, reports and records, accounting for reserves, assets and other significant financial matters so that recommendations regarding financial management practice can be provided to the MIL Executive Management team. Preparation of GST, FBT, BAS and other taxation returns. Annual tax return is outsourced at present Prepare monthly income and balance sheet statements and prepare and consolidate other accounting statements and reports for financial reporting purposes. Accounts Receivable analysis and Accounts Payable reporting. Income and balance sheet statements are prepared on time and in accordance with established format. Reports are prepared and presented in line with statutory regulations. Ensure any other reports meet statutory and internal/external requirements. Prepare various monthly ancillary financial reports and analyses for Management and Board Reporting purposes. Reports and analyses are completed within required reporting timetable, information is accurate and relevant. Maintenance/building of hierarchy within Pronto for financial reporting. MILCast 10% Other responsibilities/adhoc duties 10% Provide monthly financial reporting support for MILCast. Prepare any additional reports required in relation to the MILCast business unit. Assist with budget preparation. Provide any other support required to MILCast managers and staff. Preparation and recording of stocktakes. Administration and reconciliation of the Snowy Hydro Advance scheme. Other duties performed as required, per the general scope of the role and the capacity of the incumbent. 5 Essential KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Completed a Graduate Degree in Business Management, Accounting, Commerce or related disciplines or progression towards those qualifications accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants. Experience with computerised enterprise accounting systems. Computer skills & experience, with specific knowledge in spreadsheets and word processing. Desirable Certification by the Institute of Chartered Accountants or the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants, or progression towards such accreditation. Knowledge of Pronto Financial Management System.
