2 Bobbie Sterne Biography Bobbie (Lynn) Sterne was born in Moran, Ohio, on November 27, She graduated from the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing, and briefly studied at Akron University and the University of Cincinnati. Bobbie (then known by her birth name Lavergne) went on to serve as a First Lieutenant Army nurse with the 25 th General Hospital Unit in Britain, France and Belgium during World War Two. During the war, she married Dr. Eugene Sterne, an Army doctor, while they were both stationed in England. They had two daughters, in 1947, and Dr. Sterne died in She was first elected to City Council in 1971, and served until Defeated in 1985, she returned to council in Bobbie Sterne is well-known for being the first female mayor of Cincinnati, serving two terms beginning in 1975, and again in Bobbie Sterne has always been a Charter candidate. Sterne served on many committees and boards over the years, including the Governor s Task Force on Health Care, the Attorney General s Task Force on Domestic Violence, the Citizen s Committee on Youth, the Community Chest Board of Trustees, the Board of Planned Parenthood, the Council on Aging, and several others. Sterne was a champion of health and social services, area tourism, financial management, and city planning during her political career.
