1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 5, 2014 INTERVIEWS: Tom Jensen IF YOU HAVE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASEE OR CONSULT THE FINAL PARAGRAPH OF THE PRESSS RELEASEE McCain has worst poll numbers in the country PPP's newest Arizona poll finds that John McCain is unpopular with Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike and has now become the least popular Senator in the country. Only 30% of Arizonans approve of the job McCain is doing to 54% who disapprove. There isn't much variability in his numbers by party-independents. McCain trails in hypothetical general election match ups with both 2012 nominee Richard Carmonaa (41/35) and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords (42/35). He he's at 35/55 with Republicans, /53 with Democrats, and 25/55 with would lead though in a match up with former Governor Janet Napolitano, 44/36. This has the potential to be an interesting one in The low opinionn both Republicans and Democrats have of John McCain now means he could be vulnerable in both the primary and the general election next time around, said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. George McGovern lost his Senate seat 8 years after losing his Presidential bid and McCain could suffer a similar fate. PPP finds that Arizona s controversial immigration law, SB 1070, is still narrowly popular among voters. 44% still support the bill, compared to 36% who oppose. Support is split along both racial and party lines. Hispanics oppose the bill (28/48) as well as Democrats (20/62), whereas whites (48/32) and Republicans (64/14) support it heavily. Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, advocate of tougher immigration laws, has similar support to SB % of voters have a favorable opinion, to 43% with an unfavorable opinion. As with every other state, Arizona voters would overwhelmingly prefer to legalize medical marijuana. 67% say it should be legal, and only 26% still want it to be illegal. Medical marijuana has a majority of support from Democrats (92/5) and Independents (67/22), and a plurality of support from Republicans (47/44). At least for now, legalizingg marijuana represents a place where almost all groupss can agree. Arizonans are more split on whether marijuana should be allowed for recreational use. 46% think it should be allowed, while 48% think it should not be. PPP surveyed 870 Arizona voters, including 403 Republican primary voters, from February 28 th to March 2nd. The margin of error for the overall survey is +/- 3.3% and for the Republican primary component it s +/-4.9% %. 80% of interviews for the poll were conducted over the phone with 20% interviewed over the internet to reach respondents who don tt have landline telephones.
