2 HELLO, According to the U.S. Department of Labor, demand for qualified emergency dispatchers will grow faster than the national average during the period of 2016 to In California, emergency dispatchers will rank highest in the nation in median salary at just over $61,000 per year. 3 911 in the USA 1964, Genovese was attacked and killed outside her apartment in Queens NY Police reported that 38 people admitted to hearing her cries for help, but no report was ever made. This incident is considered one of the driving factors for development of the 911 Emergency Call System in the USA (Britain developed their version of 911 service in 1937). In 1967 President Johnson s Commission on Law Enforcement and Administration of Justice recommended that citizens have the ability to contact police utilizing a single telephone number. In early 1968 AT&T established a 911 line. The first call to 911 was made one month later in Alabama. 2
