8 European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) Five main Funds work together to support economic development across all EU countries, in line with the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), European Social Fund (ESF), Cohesion Fund (CF), European Agricultural Fund and Rural Development (EAFRD), European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). Every EU region may benefit from the ERDF and ESF. However, only the less developed regions may receive support from the Cohesion Fund. Member States are responsible for managing programmes that are supported by Cohesion Policy. Horizon 2020 is the EU Research and Innovation programme, a financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness. Budget: ~ 80 billion over 7 years (2014 to 2020) in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. Goal: to ensure EU produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation. Horizon 2020 is open to everyone. European Commission is responsible for managing the programme.
9 Where to find funding opportunities? The Funding & Tenders Portal is the single entry point for applicants, contractors and experts in funding programmes and procurements managed by the European Commission.
