1 Legislative District EdFacts Introducing Wssda EdFacts This packet contains your WSSDA EdFacts for These are individual fact sheets for each school district in your legislative district. WSSDA has produced these to help Washington Legislators better understand the school districts they serve and represent. The fact sheets provide demographics, district contacts, budget breakdown, levy figures and useful information to help legislators make more informed decisions on education issues. These fact sheets were assembled by WSSDA staff, the organization that supports Washington s 1,477 school board members in 295 public school districts. Like Washington s state Senators and Representatives, Washington s school board members are elected by and responsible to the citizens in their communities. As elected officials, they contribute hundreds of hours each year, without compensation, to promote student achievement. We hope these fact sheets are helpful as you enter the 2013 legislative session. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. School districts in Legislative District * Anacortes School District Bellingham School District Burlington-Edison School District La Conner School District Lopez School District Mount Baker School District Mount Vernon School District Orcas Island School District San Juan Island School District Sedro-Woolley School District Shaw Island School District Wssda s 2013 Legislative Priorities Fund and implement all aspects of Washington s redefined program of Basic Education (HB 2261 (2009), HB 2776 (2010) and SB 6696) through a comprehensive funding system using stable and sustainable revenue. Fund Effort Assistance/Levy Equalization (LEA). LEA remains a critical lifeline and source of flexible funding for two-thirds of Washington s school districts. This state match to local levies should not be reduced or eliminated during the process of phasing in funding for basic education. WSSDA will actively oppose any cuts to or elimination of LEA. Encourage and fund innovation in Washington s existing K-12 public schools. School districts must have the authority and flexibility to meet the diverse needs of their students. Working with our partners and stakeholders, WSSDA will initiate and/or support solutions that remove barriers to innovation in our schools. For a complete description of our 2013 Legislative Priorities, visit our website at * As reported by the Washington Redistricting Commission, January 2013.
