1 2016 West Virginia VOTING RECORD YOUR LEGISLATORS VOTING RECORD ON SMALL BUSINESS ISSUES 2016 EDITION Roll call votes by state legislators on those issues where NFIB had an official position, and where a Key Vote card was used to alert lawmakers that the issue was important to small business, are listed below. The Voting Record is only one measure of a legislator s performance. A vote tally does not indicate which legislators represented small business interests in committees or behind the scenes. However, the record does indicate their positions when asked to vote on key issues on the floor of the House or the Senate. Please take the time to thank those legislators who supported legislation important to small business. 1. Business One Stop Shop (HB 2878) 2015 Session: Establishes a portal that will serve as a single, unified access point for businesses to find information on planning, starting, operating, or expanding a business in West Virginia. A YES vote supports the NFIB Position. Passed the Senate 33 0; passed the House Signed by the governor. 2. Workplace Freedom (SB 1) 2016 Session: Guarantees that no person can be compelled as a condition of employment to join or not to join, nor to pay dues to, a labor union. A YES vote supports the NFIB Position. Passed the Senate 17 16; passed the House Vetoed by the governor. 3. Workplace Freedom Override Veto (SB 1) 2016 Session: Legislators were asked to support the veto override to enable SB 1 (workplace freedom) to become law. A YES vote supports the NFIB Position. Passed the Senate 18 16; passed the House Prevailing Wage (HB 4005) 2016 Session: Repeals West Virginia s prevailing wage act and eliminates the practice of paying government-determined wages for public projects. Prevailing Wage Override Veto (HB 4005) 2016 Session: Legislators were asked to support the veto override to enable HB 4005 (prevailing wage) to become law. A YES vote supports the NFIB Position.
