Introducing LDC
HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE LDC RESOURCES ARE ORGANIZED TO SUPPORT YOUR CONVERSATIONS Updated Website Ready to Go/Customizable PPTs Deck of Cards Talking Points 2
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: ESTABLISHING LDC S VALUE PROBLEM-SOLUTION Pinpointing challenges can help identify whether LDC is the right fit. What other problems do you hear from districts and schools?. PROBLEM There are gaps in our mostly off-the-shelf curriculum. (Alignment) Our teachers are tired of this year s initiative. (Alignment) Some of our teachers depend on free online resources that have not been vetted. (Rigor) SOLUTION LDC s backwards-design approach lets teachers find or create modules to address standards for which no curriculum exists. Because it augments other initiatives, LDC can help schools increase the value of those investments and connect them more coherently system-wide. LDC s CoreTools platform has a large library of teacher-created, vetted lessons and modules, each driven by targeted standards. 3
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: ESTABLISHING LDC S VALUE LDC S PROBLEM OF PRACTICE APPROACH Situate LDC within the district s needs and goals using a common problem of practice as an entry point. Needs tends to fall into three broad categories. Additionally, teacher development and improving outcomes are always a need. Problem Instruction Rigor Alignment Defini2on LDC helps teachers improve instructional planning and pedagogy. Teachers develop enduring instructional skills in our work-embedded PD model. LDC helps schools build a common language and approach to instruction. LDC s templates, tools and process ratchet up the rigor of assessments and assignments. Curriculum alignment rubrics and student reading/writing rubrics define quality. LDC augments rather than competes with existing approaches. The templates and backwards design processes driven by standards enable alignment in curriculum and practice across your system. 4
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: CURRENT MESSAGING RESPONDING TO PROBLEMS OF PRACTICE WITH SIMPLE MESSAGES Now is the right time to use LDC: literacy skills are required for student success in all disciplines. LDC s tools and resources are easy to use. Using LDC helps you do the work of the standards more easily and successfully. LDC works with other initiatives: it augments, rather than replaces, and its effects are longlasting. Literacy Design Collabora2ve 5
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: CURRENT MESSAGING RESPONDING TO PROBLEMS OF PRACTICE WITH SIMPLE MESSAGES Some people remember LDC from its initial rollout, when implementation was paperbased & laborious. Things have changed. LDC helps teachers to do complex work more easily because of the templates, online platform, Why three simple messages? Makes it easy to remember! These ideas are embedded in the collateral as a potential starting point to any problem of practice. Now is the right time to use LDC: literacy skills are required for student success in all disciplines. LDC s tools and resources are easy to use. Using LDC helps you do the work of the standards more easily and successfully. LDC works with other initiatives: it augments, rather than replaces, and its effects are long-lasting. Thanks to current standards, most educators will agree with this statement it is a good way to create common ground. This anticipates a potential objection: we already have so many initiatives in place. 6
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: WHY LDC? LDC VALUE PROPOSITION Simple but important: LDC s approach is foundational, not faddish. LDC s teacher competencies define enduring skills. Our professional learning system helps teachers develop those skills through work-embedded LDC is a sustainable PD. investment in teachers and teaching. LDC s backwards design approach to creating instruction aligned to standards can be applied to a lifetime of teaching approaches. Why is this a differentiator? Many other programs for educators are tied to specific curricula or standards. LDC s approach works with virtually all programs and philosophies. 7
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: VISUAL CONTENT SHOWING, NOT TELLING Visual content can often leave a lasting, more visceral impression. LDC is easy to use. LDC content is well-designed. Student work is of high quality. The big win: Educators leave a meeting feeling that they could use LDC themselves. 8
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: CREATING A NARRATIVE STORYTELLING Good graphic design can help to explain LDC s benefits. But a story with video or photographs is far more authentic and powerful. Literacy Design Collabora2ve 9
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: VISUAL CONTENT WEBSITE What, why, and how Problem of practice language aligns with marketing and implementation materials Oriented to decision-makers The website helps you tell your story more clearly and frames LDC as a professional learning system. 10
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: COLLATERAL READY TO GO AND CUSTOMIZABLE PPTS AND RESOURCES Alignment: LDC complements and augments instead of competing with Teacher development existing initiatives. Problems of practice: instruction, rigor, and alignment Literacy Design Collabora2ve 11
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: COLLATERAL LDC CARD DECK 5 ½ x 8 ½ two-sided cards allow people in the field to create custom packages for each interaction. Here are some samples. 12
LDC MARKETING STRATEGY: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER TALKING POINTS Situate LDC within the district s needs and goals using a common problem of practice or FAQ as an entry point. Common use cases and sample responses. Multiple resources crafted into a narrative you can customize. Key examples, collateral, and media for your conversations organized by problem of practice or common FAQ. 13
