2 Making Your Payments to New Charter Housing Trust Group New Charter Housing Trust and AKSA Housing have a wide range of methods to pay your rent or other payments. Rent payments are due weekly unless specific arrangements have been made. All other payments are due in accordance with your invoice. You can make payments to us using any of the following: your Housing Payment swipe card at any Post Office, Paypoint or Payzone outlet Find the Paypoint outlets in your area or call the Payments Advice Line and staff will be happy to advise you of your nearest payment outlet By Standing Order By Direct debit By using the Internet at By telephoning and paying by debit or credit card By cheque at any New Charter shop By cheque through the post By Transcash at any Post Office By Co-op bank paying-in slip By Deductions from your salary/wage if you work for New Charter Housing Trust Group or Tameside MBC To your Rent Collector, please contact for details of collections Housing Benefit INK/10/07 New Charter Housing Trust Group 2007
3 Types of Payments There are many types of charges that we collect, they include: Rents for your home Garage rents Home contents insurance premium Previous tenancy arrears Overpaid Housing Benefit Court costs Rechargeable Repairs Leaseholder Service Charge Garage plot rents, garden plot rents, ground rents Shop Rents What you need to do to make a payment The Housing Payment Swipe Card This card allows customers to pay at any outlets which display the following sign: or If you lose your card you can contact us or go to to request a card yourself. Your new card will be with you within 7 working days. or Using the Card At or or or outlets 1. Hand the card and payment to the cashier stating how much you wish to pay. Please note Paypoint and Payzone outlets will only accept cash. 2. You should have a separate swipe card for each individual account you have with us e.g. a card for Rent, a card for Garage Rent. Please make sure you hand over the correct card with the correct payment. 3. You will receive a till-type receipt. Please keep your receipts as they are your only proof of payment. For rent payers, an account statement will be sent quarterly to check against your receipts. Standing Orders You control this Payments are made directly from your bank account Payments must be made in advance You have the choice of whether to pay weekly or monthly Forms are available by calling or call into one of our town centre shops. Any changes to your standing order need to be arranged by yourself - this is particularly important at rent review time
4 You can pay your rent by direct debit on the 15th or 22nd of each month Why Pay by Direct Debit An easy and convenient payment method Payments are made on time Helps you to budget and organise your finances Guaranteed refund in the event of an error You will not need to contact your bank when your rent is changed We will notify you of any changes to your Direct Debit To set up a Direct Debit with us you must make sure you have sufficient funds in your bank account when your payment is due. It is sensible to check your bank statement regularly to ensure that your Direct Debit is going out as instructed. Please call the Payments Advice line on for a mandate to complete or download one from the New Charter website. We will contact you within 14 days of receiving your completed mandate. Online Payments: You can pay your rent, garage rent or sundry account online through BillPay which is a service provided by Alliance & Leicester. We have provided the service in conjunction with Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank to offer a free service to pay bills 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The BillPay service allows payment by Debit and Credit Cards. If you are using the service for the first time you will have to register your details and have the bills you wish to pay to hand, as you will require the payment reference numbers. You can also view the payment requests that you have made on-line over the previous 12 months. Full details of how to use the BillPay service can be found on the New Charter website
5 Debit or Credit Card Payments Call to make your payment during office hours only Alternatively call into your local New Charter Shop or AKSA Office with your card who will call the Payments Line on your behalf A receipt will be returned to you Your account will be credited within 1 working day Payments by Cheque Make cheques payable to New Charter Housing Trust Group if you are a New Charter tenant or Aksa Housing Association Ltd if you are a AKSA tenant and write your name, address and payment reference on the reverse Hand in your cheque at your local New Charter Shop or AKSA Office, you will be given a receipt Or post your cheque to New Charter Housing Trust Group, Income Section Cavendish 249 Cavendish Street Ashton Under Lyne OL6 7AT A receipt will be returned to you. Post dated cheques WILL NOT be accepted Transcash You can make your payment at any Post Office via Transcash. The counter clerk will help you to complete the payment slip, you will need to quote New Charter account number and your individual payment reference. The Post Office charges a fee of about 1.50 for this service. Co-op Payment Slip New Charter Shop in Ashton will provide you with a payment slip for you to take cash or cheque to the Co-operative Bank, 1 Market Place Ashton-under-Lyne. There is no charge for this service Deductions from your Salary/Wage If you work for New Charter Housing Trust Group or Tameside MBC, you can have deductions made from your salary/wage to make your New Charter payment, please contact (New Charter/AKSA Employees) or Tameside MBC Payroll Section (TMBC Employees) for details.
6 Housing Benefit Housing Benefit is a government scheme to help you pay for your rent. The following website will advise you how you might be able to get help to pay your rent Alternatively, you can contact your local Council or the Department for Work & Pensions for help and advice the telephone numbers are listed at the end of this leaflet. We understand that sometimes managing money can be difficult. It s really important that you let us know if you are having problems or you need help and advice with paying your rent or other bills. Help is available but it s up to you to make sure you tell us as soon as you start to find you are having difficulty. We can help direct you to the right people to help you through a bad time. Please get in touch and not in debt If you have access to the internet, the Money Information Network Tameside website may offer invaluable advice.
