1 Structuring Solutions for Managers and Advisers of Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) The AIFM Directive calls for a rethinking of Alternative finance have developed into an innovative sub-sector of the Swiss financial industry. With respect to fund distributions in the EU, however, Switzerland finds itself in the role of a third country and Swiss-based fund managers have to look for legally compliant market access. In this context, the introduction of the AIFM directive in the EU will create challenges for Swiss Managers and Advisers of Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs). The seminar discusses potential to secure market access in the EU/AIFM space with FINMA compliant structures. Moreover, this is a great opportunity for Swiss Asset Managers to meet and network with professional experts to understand the strategic challenges and to build-up and implement the best possible to overcome and mitigate the impact of these deep regulatory reforms. 3 The Speakers Dr. Andreas Mattig, Mattig Management Partners, Pfäffikon is Co-Founder and President of the board of Mattig Management Partner AG, a consulting firm focusing on controlling and risk management. Previously, he gathered professional experience in the financial service industry with leading investment banks in Switzerland and the US. He completed a master s degree in international relations and in banking and finance at the University of St. Gallen and the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He holds a doctoral degree in banking and finance from the University of St. Gallen for a thesis on the industrial organization of mutual fund markets. He has recently been invited to join the research teams of the Swedish Institute of Financial Research (SIFR) and the Center for Law and Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Annette Von Osten, Liechtenstein Investment Fund Association (LAFV) is Chief Executive of the LAFV. Previously, she worked for a German Asset Management Company and for the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) in Brussels. As a policy advisor at EFAMA she was responsible for monitoring legislative initiatives and reforms at a European level with regard to tax legislation. As such, she was a member of the European Commission s expert group on the European Savings Directive (EUSD), a member of the OECD Informal Consultative Group on the granting of treaty benefits to funds, and was involved with the reform of the European rules on VAT on Financial services. She studied law in Bonn and Heidelberg and is a member of the German bar as well as having a master s degree in Banking & Finance from the Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft in Frankfurt. Gerhard Niggli, Niggli Rechtsanwälte, Zollikon is an international finance and capital markets lawyer with over 20 years experience. He specialises in collective investments, financial products and asset management, with particular expertise in the re-insurance industry. He acts as a non-executive director of a number of companies and has a great deal of experience in the law, working for law firms in both Switzerland and the USA, including nine years at a Zurich-based law firm as a partner specialising in finance, collective investments, capital markets, derivatives and structured finance. He also has teaching positions at a number of Swiss universities and holds a master s degree from Chicago Law School. Marco Lechthaler, SWA Swiss Auditors AG, Pfäffikon is at SWA Swiss Auditors AG where he is responsible for providing to the Asset Management industry in the regulatory fields. Previously, he has worked in banking and audit practice. Specifically, he has served as a customer relationship manager and credit officer in corporate and retail banking and for 7 years as a manager and financial auditor in Financial Services at a Big-Four company with a focus on the Switzerland and Liechtenstein markets, as well as for an international insurance group. He holds a bachelor s degree in business administration, complemented by extra-occupational studies in Business Administration at the University of Applied Sciences FHS in St. Gallen. He is a chartholder of the Swiss Certified Accountant diploma.

4 The Speakers Dr. Kornelia Vallaster, Office of International Financial Affairs of the Principality of Liechtenstein (SIFA) studied law at the University of Innsbruck (Dr. iur.), holds a master s degree on European law and international trade law from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a degree of certified advanced studies from the University of Zurich on international financial Market Law. She has passed the Austrian bar and has worked for various law firms as well as working as an in-house counsel at a large USbased IT company. In 2004 she began working for the Liechtenstein Government in various functions, including, for the last four years, in financial affairs. As senior legal officer within SIFA she is, among others, responsible for the observation and transformation of European laws into national laws. Roland A. Pfister Tavernier Tschanz studied law at the Universities of Neuchâtel and Granada. After the completion of his law degree, he worked for an international law firm in Belgium and a leading investment bank in Zurich, after which he joined the tax department of one of the "Big Four" firms. In 2008 he started work on his doctoral thesis. In addition, he has an Executive MBA in Wealth Management and was a Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School. In 2011, he began working at Tavernier Tschanz in Geneva. He is a regular contributor to tax journals, and lectures frequently at Universities as well as on postgraduate tax programs. His main areas of expertise include Swiss, Liechtenstein and International tax laws for individuals and corporations including funds, trusts and foundations. Dr. Katja Gey, Office of International Financial Affairs of the Principality of Liechtenstein (SIFA) is director of the Office for International Financial Affairs of the Liechtenstein Government. She has acted as coordinator and delegate of the Government for international negotiations in financial and tax matters. Before joining the Prime Minister s Office in that function, she was a diplomat with the Office of Foreign Affairs and acted as negotiator and advisor in various areas, including EU, EEA and UN matters. In her studies she focused on economics, law and political science. She holds a doctoral degree from the University of St Gallen and completed a post graduate degree (LL.M.) in Zurich. Her publications cover international tax policy and exchange of information, intellectual property law, EU law and the European and international economic and political integration of Liechtenstein. Matthäus Den Otter, Schweizer Anlagefondsverband (SAV) received a doctorate in law from the University of Zurich and also graduated from the Swiss Finance Institute. He has also completed the 2008 Corporate Governance Programme at the University of St. Gallen. After finishing his legal training and undertaking a 2-year training programme at Swiss Bank Corporation, Mr. Den Otter has spent almost his entire career in the fund industry. As of April 1, 2005, Mr. Den Otter has been Managing Director of the Swiss Funds Association SFA. The SFA has rapidly expanded its membership and now has 173 member Firms. The SFA is the representative trade body of all asset managers and service providers of funds & other collective investment schemes.
