4 : SFI Swiss Offerings Certificate of Advanced Studies in Banking with a focus on Asset Management Objectives The «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» provides asset and wealth management executives and investment specialists with an integrated and systematic view of the current and future challenges of the industry. The program strengthens the leadership and management of global asset and wealth management firms. SFI brings together a dynamic international faculty, industry leaders, and excellent participants to discuss and learn together. While academics focus on integrating theory, expert practitioners illustrate real-world applications from the front line. In addition to the overarching objective of deepen participants understanding of asset management in a holistic manner, the main goals of the program are to: critically discuss new strategies in this complex and challenging environment explore new investment strategies and techniques and learn about new asset allocation trends broaden knowledge about new distribution models and organizational trends across the business These objectives are based on an in-depth survey of the industry and many discussions with top leadership of asset and wealth management firms. Therefore the program will be divided into three 4-day thematic blocks: Speakers and Methodology The «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» covers topics from a theoretical as well as from a practical perspective. While the participants acquire fundamental knowledge in a self-study phase, during the classroom sessions, selected university professors with close contact to the financial industry focus on the practical implementation of the theoretical approaches. In addition, proven practitioners present their opinions, based on which the practical implementation of the theory will be reviewed and discussed. A mix of lectures, group discussions, workshops and moderated dialogues will be utilized with a heavy focus on discussion amongst faculty and participants. The discussions both during the group work and in the plenary sessions do not only promote the exchange of experiences, but also help participants to extend their personal network. Target Audience and Admission The «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» targets experienced executives in asset and wealth management. Participants typically have a minimum of 10 years of experience, including five years in a managerial role. In accordance with the requirements of the degree partner, the University of Bern, Swiss Finance Institute has defined participants profiles as follows: Strategic Challenges Organization and Distribution Products and Investment Strategies The «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» is delivered in cooperation with Rochester-Bern Executive Programs and the University of Bern. significant experience proven analytical skills academic background and professional qualifications strong English skills to follow the course and to actively participate in the in-course discussions The number of participants for this program is limited. The program management decides together with the university partners on the final admission of 4
5 SFI Swiss Offerings : «Asset Management is the development of managed investment solutions and the ongoing discretionary management of portfolios on behalf of clients or for proprietary purposes. It also involves the distribution of investment solutions to institutional investors, the servicing of those investors, and the administration of their assets.» the candidates. The following criteria are taken into consideration: topic in the field of asset management within three months of the course closing. Qualification according to the resume and the function Motivation of the candidate for participation in the program Course Structure The «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» is an intensive program consisting of three 4-day blocks of on-site training, an exam and an academically based paper. The program will take place in Zurich. Each session is led by a renowned academic and includes many guest speakers. Each day begins with a review of the status quo of the specific topic, both in regard to academic research and practice, and quickly moves into the current challenges. Course Fees The course fee is CHF (incl. VAT) and is payable before the program begins. The fee covers tuition, course materials, lunches and refreshments, and official events during the program. It does not include evening meals, hotel, or travel expenses. SFI Managing International Asset Management Participants can also attend the program as an executive program without obtaining an academic degree. The «SFI Managing International Asset Management» program is conducted together with the «CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» but does not require taking any exams or authoring a research paper. Please see miam for more information. The program contains an intensive simulation on portfolio management which covers all of the topics of the program. The course is conducted in English. SFI Spotlight Courses Participants have the possibility to attend single 4-day blocks as SFI Spotlight Courses. For the attendance of the course a Certificate issued by the Swiss Finance Institute will be awarded. Certification In order to receive the «Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Banking with a focus on Asset Management» issued by the University of Bern (15 ECTS), participants must pass an exam that covers all modules of the program. 7 SFI Swiss Offerings : CAS in Banking with a focus on Asset Management Modules In the current program, there are three overarching topics which need addressing by asset and wealth management executives: Strategic Challenges Organization and Distribution Issues Products & Investment Strategies Organization and Distribution Not only what we do is changing, but how we do it as well. In this block, we focus on client delight, change management both people and processes performance reporting, fiduciary responsibility, risk management as well as future distribution models of asset management. All of these topics are equally important. Strategic Challenges Asset management is heavily affected by the current and future macro-economic situation. Current and future asset management strategies and challenges are discussed at length. We view regulation from two perspectives, both as an opportunity and a threat. As we look forward, the topics of smart data, fintech opportunities, industrialization, and transformation are presented and discussed. Products & Investment Strategies As markets are characterized by increasing volatility and decreasing returns, we review the asset allocation process, behavioral finance models for asset managers, as well as new product classes and innovation in asset management. We discuss several investment philosophies in depth: factor-based investing, risk-based investing, and impact investing and have a special sessions on pension funds, real estate, managed futures and private equity. 7
