Wind parks developed in the North Sea and Baltic Sea regions are highly subsidised by national governments and organisations. This topic is therefore ripe for a discussion-based session. Moderators will highlight legal pitfalls, topics and solutions in areas such as charter parties for offshore supply vessels, building contracts for offshore installation units, off shore casualties, ownership and title issues for offshore installation structures, insurance of offshore installations and services as well as financing issues. 3 Wednesday 30 May Cross-border insolvencies: restructuring and shipping insolvencies how, why, when and where Against the backdrop of multiple shipping bankruptcies filed in 2011 and the prediction of more to come, this half-day session will start with a review of the insolvency regimes of major jurisdictions. It will be based on the experience of experts from Denmark, England, Japan, Italy, Norway and the US, including the extent to which recognition of foreign main proceedings is provided under the Model Law and EC Law. It will then consider the practical and legal problems and choices facing a theoretical major distressed shipping company and its financiers seeking to restructure, drawing on recent examples within the industry, and the cross-border issues that arise. Active audience participation is anticipated and will be welcomed. Modern ship owners and operators, and vessel officers, are subjected to increasingly detailed and rigorously enforced environmental, security, safety, and political (embargos/sanctions) regulations and requirements. The consequences for non-compliance with these regulations, even if unintentional, can be disruptive to operations and costly. And in some cases the consequences can be catastrophic. The panel will examine compliance issues generally, with a particular emphasis on key and/ or emerging compliance issues in each speaker s jurisdiction, and will comment on steps a global ship owner can take to manage world-wide compliance. Cancellation of registration If cancellation is received in writing at the IBA office by 27 April, fees will be refunded less a 25 per cent administration charge. Advert space Maritime and Transport Law Committee overview The Maritime and Transport Law Committee is one of the oldest and most well-established committees of the IBA. Formerly known as Committee A, it has more than 650 members worldwide. The committee has a tradition of being the platform where leading maritime law professionals meet, create connections and discuss the most current legal issues in the field of maritime and transport law. The committee arranges a number of sessions on developments in maritime and transport law at the annual conferences of the IBA.
