The criminal courts effect a carefully judged balance between these interests on a daily basis. Terrorism however strikes at society at large. The session will examine whether the balance between these public interests should be weighted in favour of the investigator and the extent to which individual rights should give way to those of society. Criminal Law Committee The Criminal Law Committee has over 350 members in 76 countries and membership is increasing steadily. The Criminal Law Committee supports this need through its regular specialised Conferences and working sessions at the annual International Bar Association Conferences, as well as its regular Newsletter. Business Crime Committee The Business Crime Committee s primary objective is to promote awareness within the business community and among transactional lawyers of the growing significance of legal compliance. The Committee has recently been focusing on money laundering issues, the new legal framework designed to combat bribery and corrupt practices in international business transactions.
