Article 5: Calculation of Total Potential Exposure Each day, SPP performs the following: Determine the Total Potential Exposure (TPE) of each Credit Customer. Exposure (ME) Transmission Service Potential Exposure (TSPE) Total TCR Credit Requirement Total Potential Exposure (TPE) Compare the TPE of each Credit Customer to that Customer s TCL. Unsecured Credit Allowance Financial Security (Secured Credit) Total Credit Limit (TCL) Results: If Total Potential Exposure (TPE) > The Total Credit If Secured Limit (TCL) OR Exposure the Customer must provide financial security to SPP in the amount of the difference. > The Secured Credit Limit 2
Article 5 Exposure (ME) Calculating Credit Exposure: TPE ME TSPE Exposure (ME) Potential exposure to non-payment associated with market transactions in the Integrated place. Exposure (ME) IMSC: Invoiced Settlement Charges CMSC: Calculated Settlement Charges + : Maximum Estimated Exposure : Estimated Virtual Exposure 3
MEME = Maximum Estimated Exposure (based on historical usage) STEP 1: Take the greater of: (a) The average of last 365 days of daily settlement activity (or if settlement activity occurred for a lesser period, the average settlement activity during such lesser period), OR (b) The average of the last 7 days of daily settlement activity (if for a lesser period, if the average settlement activity during such lesser period). 4
Maximum Estimated Exposure (MEME) The components used to estimate the average of the last seven (7) days of daily settlement activity can differ by market. Real-Time (RT) = Operating Day + 7 Day-Ahead (DA) = Operating Day + 7; when available Operating Day + 4 5
STEP 2: Greater value from Step 1 multiplied by the number of days remaining in the Potential Exposure Window DA Exposure Days (Number of Days) Today Max Date Settled 1 Cure Period RT Exposure Days (Number of Days) Today Max Date Settled Cure Period 6
STEP 2: Greater value from Step 1 multiplied by the number of days remaining in the Potential Exposure Window DA Exposure Days = 13 03/16/ /08/ Cure Period: Number of calendar days in the next two business days. If this goes over a weekend, then include two days for the weekend. 7
Estimated Virtual Exposure () Calculated for all credit approved Bid / Offers or Virtual Awards for which the Operating Day has not yet been settled. 8
The for a bid would be calculated as follows: BID Estimated Virtual Exposure () Max MW (from Bid) Bid Reference Price at Location for Quarter The for a offer would be calculated as follows: OFFER Estimated Virtual Exposure () Max MW (from Offer) Offer Reference Price at Location for Quarter Hourly s for each bid/offer are calculated separately and then summed to determine the for the bids/offers in a single submission. 9
Once the DA is solved, s are updated by replacing the maximum MWs with the actual MWs awarded. The Bid and Offer Reference Prices are unchanged. Exposure calculations are re-run as follows: DEMAND () Awarded MW (from Bid) Bid Reference Price at Location for Quarter SUPPLY () Awarded MW (from Offer) Offer Reference Price at Location for Quarter 10
