2 Keith Ambachtsheer Rotman ICPM (Canada) Director Emeritus Keith Ambachtsheer is Director Emeritus of the Rotman International Centre for Pension Management (ICPM), an Adjunct Professor of Finance, Academic Director of the Rotman-ICPM Board Effectiveness Program, and he was the Publisher and Editor of the Rotman International Journal of Pension Management until His firm, KPA Advisory Services Ltd., has provided advice to governments, industry associations, pension-plan sponsors, foundations and other institutional investors since He is the co-founder of CEM Benchmarking Inc. which monitors the performance of 300 pensions worldwide. Keith has authored three books on pension management and has received numerous industry awards. Susan Banta Pew Charitable Trusts (USA) Director of Research Public Sector Retirement Systems Director of Research, States Public Sector Retirement Systems, The Pew Charitable Trusts. Susan M. Banta is a fiscal economist with over 20 years of experience in advising governments on public finance, tax policy, budget formulation and execution, tax administration, and revenue estimation. As Director of Research with the States Public Sector Retirement Systems at the Pew Charitable Trusts, Ms. Banta leads a team of researchers studying state retirement system funding policies, investment practices, governance and benefits. Ms. Banta most recently served as Senior Budget Officer in the Executive Office of District of Columbia Mayor Vincent C. Gray, where she advised the mayor on tax policy and managed the economic development portfolio of the District s $10 billion annual budget. She was also the Director of the Office of Policy Analysis at the Council of the District of Columbia, and a Director with KPMG Barents Group LLC, where she advised state and international governments on fiscal reform.

3 Claude Bergeron Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (Canada) Executive Vice President and CRO Claude Bergeron has been Executive Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer since November In this capacity, he oversees the teams responsible for monitoring, measuring and analyzing risk at la Caisse. His team is also responsible for promoting a risk culture within the institution by focusing on specialized expertise in la Caisse s investment areas and applying the tools developed to identify risks. The team also plays an active role in all management processes. Co-Chair of the Investment-Risk Committee, Mr. Bergeron sits on the Executive Committee. Laurence Booth Rotman School of Management (Canada) CIT Chair in Structured Finance, Professor of Finance laurence.booth@rotman.utoronto.ca Laurence Booth holds the CIT chair in structured finance at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. His major research interests are in corporate finance and asset management. He has published over seventy articles in academic journals, including the Journal of Finance and the JFQA as well as major textbooks for McGraw Hill, International Business (with Alan Rugman and Don Lecraw) and John Wiley and Sons Introduction to Corporate Finance 4th edition (with Sean Cleary and Ian Rakita) and Corporate Finance (with Sean Cleary and Pamela Drake Peterson). Professor Booth is on the editorial board of four academic journals and in 2003 was awarded the Financial Post s Leader in Management Education Award. He regularly wins awards for teaching excellence and is sought out by the media for commentary. He has appeared as an expert financial witness in civil cases as well as before the Ontario Securities Commission, the National Energy Board, the CRTC, and most of the major regulatory tribunals in Canada.

4 Jean-François Bureau Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP) (Canada) Chief Risk Officer Jean-Francois Bureau joined PSP in March 2010 as Chief Risk Officer with more than 25 years experience in the North American and European financial markets. Prior to joining PSP, he held executive finance positions in various companies, notably as Vice President Credit - Specialized Products at National Bank of Canada; in telecommunications as Vice-President Corporate Projects M&A at Groupe Vidéotron ltée; and in life sciences as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at DiagnoCure. He holds a Master s degree in Finance from Laval University and is a CFA charterholder. Ian Cameron Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (USA) Chief Operations/Financial Officer ian.cameron@sib.wa.gove Ian Cameron is the Chief Operations/Financial Officer at the Washington State Investment Board (WSIB), with responsibility for a number of services that include agency-wide risk management, legal, travel, information systems management, and administrative services. In addition, Mr. Cameron s role supports various areas related to the investment function, including investment accounting, trade settlement, cash management, private market funding, cash and stock distributions, foreign and domestic tax matters, and investment compliance monitoring. Prior to joining the WSIB, Mr. Cameron was Vice President and Finance Director for the Private Markets Division of the Capital Group Companies. While at the Capital Group, his responsibilities included the accounting and operations for a wide range of Capital Group s institutional client focused products.

5 Karen Danylak OPTRUST (Canada) Assistant Vice-President, Corporate Affairs & Corporate Secretary Karen Danylak was named Assistant Vice-President, Corporate Affairs & Corporate Secretary and appointed to the Executive Team in August In this role, Ms. Danylak serves as a senior advisor to the President & CEO and supports key strategic initiatives for the organization, including the development of OPTrust s annual business plan and longer-term strategic plans. As Corporate Secretary, she is also responsible for supporting and advising the Board of Trustees in all matters of governance. Ms. Danylak joined OPTrust in 2010 as Director of Communications where she was instrumental in building the organization s communications function and led a team of corporate communications professionals. Most recently, Ms. Danylak was promoted to the role of Assistant Vice-President, Strategic Initiatives & Communications. Ms. Danylak has more than 15 years of experience in corporate communications, marketing, and strategic counsel. Before joining OPTrust, she held progressively senior roles at a large Canadian investment management firm. She holds a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Toronto. Bas de Lege Stichting Bedrijfstakpensioenfon ds voor de Detailhandel (Netherlands) Board Member Not Available basdelege@bureaubpfd.nl Bas de Lege is employed by the largest Dutch labour union: FNV. In this capacity he is responsible for the union s employability program which offers support to union members. This programme includes coaching and training on different aspects of career development. One of the challenges is developing programs that enables workers to reach their retirement in good health. One of his other responsibilities is representing the employees of pension fund for the Retail industry. He is chairman of the communication committee of the pension fund for the Retail industry. Bas s educational background is divers: he is a qualified Mediator, did study Tropical Agriculture and did specific Dutch studies relating to labour and pension arrangements.

The mission of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) is to: ensure the timely and efficient delivery of the benefits provided in the rules, and protect pensions against inflation to the maximum extent affordable, while maintaining the financial soundness of the Fund; invest responsibly by engaging with organisations in which the Fund invests to encourage good governance, social equity and sound environment practices; empower members, pensioners and other stakeholders through adequate communication; and champion retirement industry initiatives. Henk Groot Stichting Bedrijfstakpensioenfon ds voor de Detailhandel (Netherlands) Manager Investments & Finance Henk Groot (1968) is employed by the Dutch industry-wide pensionfund for the Retailers ( actives, 16 billion AUM). Within the Pensionbureau of the pensionfund he is acting as Head of Investments & Finance. He started his career with KAS Bank where he acted in several roles being account manager for professional domestic traders, network manager global custody and relationship manager for Institutional Investors. He then moved to Northern Trust where he became a senior relationship manager for Institutional clients. He studied at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam, did many specific Dutch studies relating to the securities business and attended academic courses on pension funds at the Rotman School of Management (Toronto, Canada).

7 Philippe Guèvremont Retraite Québec (Canada) Actuaire x3655 As part of its commitment to provide its clients with a fair and just application of the programs offered, the Direction du régime public de rentes ensures program monitoring, contributes to program development and processes applications for review. It also plays a role in promoting financial security for retirement. The Direction is made up of three units: the Service du développement des programmes, the Service de la révision RRQ-SAE and the Service de l évaluation et de l administration provisoire. The Direction produces the actuarial valuation of the Québec Pension Plan and manages pensions in cases where a plan is in financial difficulty. Lauralee Guthrie Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) (Canada) Director, Marketing & Communications x4825 lguthrie@hoop.com Lauralee Guthrie is the Director of Marketing & Communications and leads the education and engagement communication strategy for the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. Lauralee is responsible for all Plan communications, including program development and Omni channel delivery, creative direction, and reputation management, in support of Plan operations and HOOPP's overall business strategies. Lauralee has more than ten years of experience leading marketing and communication teams and consulting brands including the PGA, Canada Post, Starbucks, Molson, Allstream, and Randstad in the development and execution of marketing strategy, training, and targeted campaigns. As a marketing strategist, she has had the opportunity to speak and train international audiences in over 30 locations in 9 different countries including the Netherlands, UK, Australia, New Zealand, France, Slovenia, Cyprus, the United States, and Canada.

8 Naomi Heatley Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) (United Kingdom) USS Investment Management Naomi joined USSIM in August 2012 as Business Development Manager working for the USS Investment Management COO and running front office projects across the scheme; her main responsibility was the selection and establishment of a new LDI manager. She subsequently became the LDI & Treasury Manager, responsible for the external LDI mandate and the creation of a treasury function. Additionally Naomi is focused on strategy solutions provision for the scheme, most notably supporting the ongoing work to update the Financial Management Plan. Previously Naomi worked at JP Morgan in both London and Luxembourg in a number of different roles across the Investment Bank and Securities Servicing. Naomi graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in English Literature and subsequently gained a 1st class degree in Finance from Oxford Brookes and holds an ACCA qualification. Russell Hiscock CN Investment Division (Canada) President and CEO rhiscock@cnid.ca Russell Hiscock is President and Chief Executive Officer of the CN Investment Division, which manages one of the largest corporate pension funds in Canada. Mr. Hiscock joined CN Investment Division in 1987 as a Manager Investments. He was subsequently appointed Manager Common Stocks and General Manager. He has many years of equity portfolio management experience, in both the Canadian and International stock Markets, with particular emphasis on the oil and gas sector. Mr. Hiscock is past Chairman of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC). Mr. Hiscock holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from University of Waterloo, a Master of Arts degree in Economics from University of Western Ontario and an MBA from University of Toronto. He is a Certified Chartered Financial Analyst and a Certified Management Accountant.

9 Chris Hitchen Railways Pension Trustee Company (United Kingdom) Chief Executive Officer Chris is the CEO of the Railways Pension Trustee Company and its operating subsidiaries, RPMI and Railpen Investments. He sits on the Board of the Investor Forum and is a Director of the Pensions Quality Mark. From Chris was a Trustee Member of NEST and was the first Chair of its Investment Committee. He is a former Chairman of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association and of its Investment Council. Chris is an Actuary, with 30 years' experience in pensions and investments. In 2015, Chris was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the CFA Society of the UK (FSIP). Sadayuki Horie Nomura Research Institute (Japan) Senior Researcher s-horie@nri.co.jp Sadayuki Horie is a senior researcher at the Nomura Research Institute (NRI) in Tokyo, the largest think tank in Japan. In 1986, he developed the Nomura BPI, which is now the industry standard. During , he developed exotic option models and other quantitative models in the New York office. From 1996 to 2001, he was the head of the quantitative group of Nomura Asset Management, managing over $1bn through GTAA & currency funds. From 2001, he has worked on pension fund consulting and advanced asset management research. Mr. Horie wrote many articles in the Security Analysts Journal and other journals for last 35 years. Mr. Horie is a graduate of the Kobe University of Commerce and visiting professor of the graduate school of Osaka University of Economics. He was also deputy chairman of Investment Advisory Committee - Government Pension Investment Fund, a member of the council of experts concerning the Japanese version of the Stewardship Code, a member of the Council of Experts Concerning the Corporate Governance Code, a member of advisory panel for sophisticating the management of public/quasi-public funds by Japanese government.

10 Victoria Hubbell Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) (Canada) Senior Vice President, Strategy & Stakeholder Relations Victoria Hubbell is HOOPP's Senior Vice President, Strategy & Stakeholder Relations. She is responsible for strategic planning, marketing and communications, human resources, defined benefit pension advocacy, stakeholder relations including public affairs and government relations. Victoria has held senior management positions with two leading financial services companies and brings years of experience in strategic implementation, leadership development, and organizational change to the organization. She has been recognized by the Women's Executive Network as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women and is a former member of the Board of Governors for Waterstone Human Capital. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Western Ontario. Clifton Islings CN Investment Division (Canada) Vice President - Investments isings@cnid.ca The CN Investment Division manages the Canadian Pension Fund assets of the Canadian National Railway Company, having a market value of some C$17.8 billion. The Investment Division has some 80 employees, of which about 40 are investment professionals. The Fund is a long-term ownership oriented investor. The Division is largely internally managed and has investment exposure to domestic and foreign equities, fixed income, hedge funds, real estate, infrastructure and oil and gas. Clifton Isings is Vice-President - Investments of the CN Investment Division, which manages one of the largest corporate pension funds in Canada. His responsibilities include risk management, fixed income, Canadian investments, real estate, trading and settlements and some asset allocation. Mr. Isings has been with the Division for 22 years and was previously Manager of the International Equities. He is currently a member of CN s U.S. Subsidiaries Investment Committee and also a member of the Investment Committee of the Canadian Olympics.

11 Jaakko Kiander Ilmarinen (Finland) Senior Vice President, Finance and Pension Policy Jaakko Kiander is currently Senior Vice President and CFO of Ilmarinen, the second biggest pension insurance company in Finland. He is an economist by trading and has got his PhD from the University of Helsinki where he is also an adjunct professor of economics. Before joining Ilmarinen in 2010 he has been working at the University of Helsinki, Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation, Government Institute for Economic Research and as a Managing Director of the Labour Institute for Economic Research. He is one of the best-known macroeconomists in Finland. Beside the tasks of CFO in Ilmarinen, he is also working with corporate strategy and pension policy planning. Lloyd Komori Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) (Canada) SVP Risk Management lkomori@omers.com Lloyd Komori assumed the newly created position of Senior Vice President, Risk Management in January 2015 after serving as a member of the OMERS Board of Directors for the previous year. In this new role, he is responsible for leading the design and implementation of all major initiatives that relate to risk management across the OMERS enterprise. This includes building out the organization s investment, pension and operational risk management capabilities and deliverables and to establish OMERS as an industry leader in this field. His risk management and corporate governance expertise and experience is based on his thirty years plus experience in global financial markets. He spent fifteen years in investment banking, ten years building and managing the risk consulting practice of a global professional services firm and nearly five years as the Chief Risk Officer of Canada s largest integrated public utility. He is a founding faculty member of The Directors College, Canada s only university accredited degree designed for board directors of public entities and is a highly recognized expert and author in both risk management and corporate governance. Over the past ten years he has been awarded all three of the board director certifications awarded by the Degroote School of Business of McMaster University. He currently serves as a member of the Dean s Advisory Council of the Ted Rogers School of Business of Ryerson University in Toronto.

12 Fernando Larrain AFP Chile (Chile) CEO Master in Public Affairs, Princeton University. BA in Economics, Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile. He worked as an advisor of the past President Ricardo Lagos, in issues related with public finance and state reform. Also he was an advisor of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy and Ministry of Economics. Before joining the Association of Pension Funds he was full time professor at Universidad Diego Portales and Universidad Adolfo Ibañez. In 2015 Fernando became Eisenhower Fellow. Since January 2016 Fernando is the CEO of the Association of Pension Funds in Chile. Tony Li Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board (OTPP) (Canada) Portfolio Manager, Strategy & Risk Tony Li joined the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan (OTPP) in Tony leads the Private Markets Risk team within Strategy & Risk department, overseeing a model development group and an asset risk assessment group. His areas of focus include: 1) Constructing models to quantify the market and credit risks of the fund s investments in private markets including private equity, infrastructure, real estate, timberland and natural resources etc.; 2) Assessing risks associated with each privately held investment including market, credit, liquidity, governance, regulatory, political and reputational risks; 3) Conducting investment research on private asset classes. Prior to joining Teachers, Tony was a Senior Associate at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board where he was a key contributor in developing the fund s strategic asset allocation framework and the asset return models. Tony has a PhD degree in Statistics from Purdue University. He also holds a Master degree in Statistics form University of Toronto and a Master degree in Computational Finance from Purdue University.

13 Tiff Macklem Rotman School of Management (Canada) Dean Tiff Macklem brings exceptional depth and experience to his role as dean of the Rotman School. Before Rotman, Macklem was senior deputy governor at the Bank of Canada, where he helped guide Canada through the financial crisis of Greg Mennis Pew Charitable Trusts (USA) Director, Public Sector Retirement Systems Mennis oversees Pew s analysis of state and local retirement systems and manages technical assistance designed to help city and state policymakers develop options to design and adopt retirement systems that are fair, affordable and fiscally sustainable. Prior to joining Pew, Mennis served as assistant secretary for fiscal policy in the Massachusetts Executive Office for Finance and administration, where he was responsible for retirement benefits policy, long-term fiscal planning, and the state s Pay for Success financing program. In that role, Mennis led the development of Massachusetts successful pension reform legislation and created the state s first long-term fiscal policy framework. Mennis holds a bachelor s degree in finance and communications from Syracuse University and a master s degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Lars Meuller CPP Investment Board (United Kingdom) lmeuller@cppib.com Senior Portfolio Manager Lars is responsible for portfolio strategy and construction and has over 20 years of asset management experience. Prior to joining CPP IB in 2010 he held various senior roles in institutional and hedge fund organisations in Europe and the US, including Economist at the International Monetary Fund, Chief Analyst at Volvo Treasury, and Senior Economist at the 2nd Swedish National Pension Fund. He began his career as an academic economist focused on monetary macroeconomics.

14 Bernard Morency Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (Canada) EVP and Chief Operating Officer Mr. Morency has been Special Advisor at CDPQ since March Prior to that, he was Executive Vice-President, Depositors, Strategy and Chief Operations Officer. He oversaw relations between CDPQ and its 34 depositors, including their strategic asset allocation policy, and managed the development and implementation of the institution's three-year strategic plan and its annual business plans. He also oversaw all activities carried out by the Operations and Information Technology group and sat on the Executive Committee. Prior to joining CDPQ, Mr. Morency worked at Mercer for over 30 years. During that time, he held a variety of leadership and senior management positions. He was a member of Mercer's global executive team from September 2000 to June He also oversaw Mercer s Retirement, Benefits, Investment and Outsourcing businesses worldwide. These businesses generated revenues in excess of US $1.8 billion and employed over 10,000 people in 39 countries. Mr. Morency is a member of the Conference Board of Canada and of the Board of Directors of International Center for Pension Management (ICPM). Richard Neault Bombardier (Canada) richard.neault@bombardier.com Vice President, Pension Asset Management Mr. Neault graduated from Laval University in 1982 with a Bachelor Degree in Actuarial Sciences. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and of the Society of Actuaries. From 1983 to 1999, he worked with William M. Mercer Limited as a pension and investment consultant. Mr. Neault also acted as the Chair of Mercer Canadian Investment Practice Group and was a member of Mercer Global Investment Practice Group. From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Neault was President and Chief Operating Officer of Elantis, the global investment management subsidiary of Mouvement Desjardins. Since January 2004, Mr. Neault is responsible for the management of Bombardier Inc. pension funds around the world.

15 Deborah Ng Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board (OTPP) (Canada) Portfolio Manager Deborah Ng is a Portfolio Manager, Strategy & Asset Mix, with the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. Current areas of focus for Deborah and her team include the research, evaluation, and introduction of innovative asset allocation strategies that are designed to help meet the Plan s long-term liability objectives, as well as, framework and guideline development and implementation oversight for the Plan s responsible investment initiatives. She also provides input and support for the annual strategic investment plan and medium-term risk management. Prior to joining Teachers, Deborah founded Acuity Communications, assisting investment firms such as UBS Securities, CIBC WM, and Desjardins Securities with their investment research requirements. Deborah was awarded with Directors Award from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto where she obtained her Master of Finance (with high distinction). She is also a CFA charter holder. Brian O Donnell Global Risk Institute (GRI) (Canada) Executive in Residence bodonnell@globalriskinstitute.org Brian is an Executive in Residence at the Global Risk Institute, after retiring from CIBC in Most recently Brian was CIBC s Executive Vice President and Chief Data Officer, where he developed their data strategy and governance framework. Prior to the CDO position Brian lead the Bank s Enterprise Risk Management group, including balance sheet and capital management. Over the years he held a number of positions in the finance and risk management group, including Chief Financial Officer of the Treasury Division. Prior to joining CIBC Brian started his career with Xerox Canada, working in their Finance, Tax and Treasury groups. Brian earned a Masters of Business Administration at McMaster s DeGroote School of Business, and also holds a Certified Public Accountant designation.

16 Cara O Hagan Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) (Canada) cohagan@omers.com Vice President, Member and Stakeholder Communications Cara-Marie O'Hagan is the Vice President, Stakeholder and Member Communications with OMERS. Prior to joining OMERS, she was employed as the Director of Policy to the Ontario Minister of Finance. In that position, she worked on several pension policy matters, including the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan and pension solvency issues. A lawyer by training, Cara lives in Toronto with her husband and two daughters. Stephen O Neill National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) (United Kingdom) CFA: NEST Investment Policy & Retirement Solutions stephen.oneill@nestcorporation.org.uk Stephen has worked in the Investment team at NEST/PADA for the last seven years. Over that time Stephen has been responsible for delivering NEST s alternative fund choices plus other aspects the scheme s investment proposition including its approach to responsible investment. Stephen s current responsibilities include researching retirement investment solutions suitable for NEST s members. Stephen is a CFA charterholder, holds the Investment Management Certificate and has a B.Sc in Physics from the University of Bristol.

17 Alwin Oerlemans Algemene Pensioen Groep (APG) (Netherlands) Managing Director Institutional Business Development His focus is on pension asset & risk management and international pensions. Alwin has been at APG since 2006 in positions in strategy and business development. Before APG, he worked for 9 years at merchant bank NIBC where he was involved in financial markets and pension fund risk management and 5 years at the Treasury of the Dutch Ministry of Finance in The Hague. He is chairman of the APG Personnel Pension Fund and takes part in the Editorial Boards of several pension publications. He holds a masters degree in Operations Research and Econometrics from Erasmus University Rotterdam, a PhD in Quantitative Economics from Maastricht University and is CFA and FRM (Financial Risk Manager) charter holder. He has written several articles on pension design, risk management and IORPs. APG is specialised in the administration of collective pensions and serves over 4.5 million pension fund members in the sectors education, government, construction, cleaning and housing corporations. APG manages over 440 billion of pension assets and has offices in Amsterdam, Heerlen, New York, Hong Kong and Bruxelles. Michelle Ostermann British Columbia Investment Management Corp. (bcimc) (Canada) Senior Vice President, Research and Risk Measurement michelle.ostermann@bcimc.com Michelle Ostermann joined bcimc in 2013 and leads their Investment Research, Economics and Investment Risk teams. Over the course of her 22 year career she has held a variety of roles in the investment, insurance and pension industries. She was the general manager of Manulife s $35B annuity business, built from the ground up Sun Life Global Investments asset allocation team ultimately managing $6B AUA, and managed a $10B ALM portfolio for Sun Life Investments. She has experience in front, middle and back office roles ranging from business development to risk management and actuarial pricing for both Pension and Retail Wealth businesses. Her proudest accomplishments include leading a business development team charged with a $2B sales target spanning 5 different distribution channels, and a product development team responsible for reinventing Canada s leading segregated fund line up. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) and Junior Achievement BC. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation (2001).
