11 Meeting Date: November 9, 2018 REPORT TO FIRE AND POLICE RETIREMENT BOARD October 19, 2018 FROM: ROBERT THELLER, Retirement Administrator BY: ANDREA KETCH, Senior Retirement Counselor SUBJECT: FISCAL YEAR 2019 CAREER RANK COLA CALCULATIONS FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT POSITIONS We are pleased to advise the Fire and Police Retirement Board the Career Rank COLA calculations for Tier 1 DROP participants and annuitants who held positions in the Fire Department has been completed and posted to the October 2018 payroll. This adjustment was implemented based on the MOU provisions regarding salary and other compensation items. CONCLUSION The statistics are as follows: Increase is based on the Fire Non-Management uniform increase effective August 20, 2018 and the Fire Management salary increase that became effective October 1, Increased benefit amounts for 105 payees Average Increase was 1.27%, ranging from 0.09% to 1.37% Sum of the total monthly benefit increase was $ For the Board s review, staff has included the FMC section relative to Career Rank COLA for Tier 1, as well as the COLA calculation sheets; exhibits numbered below for clarity. The following words and phrases as used in this article, unless a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall have the following meanings: (a) (9) "Average compensation" shall mean the average monthly compensation attached to the rank or ranks held by a member during employment in the Fire Department, Police Department, or Airport Public Safety Division, unless the member commenced service prior to August 27, 1990 and elected the definition of average compensation contained in Section Said average shall be the sum of the products of the compensation attached to the respective ranks held by the member and the service rendered in such ranks, divided by the total service with which the member is entitled to be credited.
