What the average investor doesn t realize is that most advisors hold brokerage licenses that allow them to put their firm's interests ahead of the client's. They aren t legally obligated to act in the client s best interest and can sell investment products for commissions. The Mather Group is a registered investment advisor with a fiduciary duty to our clients. That means we have a legal obligation to always act in their best interest. 2 PROGRAM SUMMARY The internship program is designed to give you a broad knowledge base of the wealth management industry, including financial planning, client management, portfolio management, risk management, tax planning and estate planning. Additionally, you will receive experience using common industry software including MoneyGuidePro, emoney Advisor, Orion and Fidelity s Wealthscape SM platform in a real-world setting. We plan to hire from the 2018 class and are looking to fill a Financial Planning Analyst position in our Houston office. If you do not work with our firm upon graduation, former interns have still gone on to work for such companies as Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Bain, UBS, KPMG, Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, McDonalds, and BP. Alumni of the program have also attended academic institutions such as Harvard Business School and the University of Chicago Law School. Dates for the Houston internship will be May 28, 2018 August 17, Compensation for the internship program will be $15 per hour. The Mather Group will also work with your university to help you receive credit hours if available. ONSITE RESPONSIBILITIES The dress code is business formal and you will be expected to work from 8:00 AM 4:00 PM every day. During this time, your responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Build financial plans under the supervision of Wealth Advisors Assist Wealth Advisors in analyzing cash flows, asset allocation, & retirement planning strategies Prepare materials for client and prospect meetings Build proprietary portfolio cost and back-testing analyses Analyze annuities and insurance products for prospective clients Complete a comprehensive retirement plan for a hypothetical client and present your analysis to upper management

3 INVESTMENT COMPETITION As a summer intern, you will be provided the opportunity to compete against your peers in the Chicago office and members of our team in an investment competition through Investopedia. You will be given $1,000,000 to invest for a client with certain goals and objectives. There will be various restrictions placed on the account to make the contest as fair as possible. Competition dates will be determined at the start of the internship. The rankings will be based on the portfolio s total return through that time period. 4 WEALTH ADVISOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM The Mather Group s Professional Development Program is dedicated to growing financial professionals into successful Wealth Advisors capable of managing the complex financial situations of our valued high-net-worth clients. The program provides a clear path towards a rewarding career, allowing you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of clients at one of the top RIAs in the country. Financial Planning Analyst (2 years) During this initial stage of your career, you will be assigned a Wealth Advisor who will act as your mentor and train you on the technology platforms and best practices of the firm. You will be mainly responsible for assisting the firm in building out financial plans for prospects/clients while assisting the firm s Wealth Advisors with the day-to-day needs of clients. You will be expected to obtain your Series 65 within the first 3 months of employment and begin working toward your Certified Financial Planner Designation shortly after. As you build your knowledge base, you will also be required to rotate throughout the different areas of The Mather Group to become proficient in the firm s business process. Responsibilities: Build and maintain financial plans for Wealth Advisors Provide advice on investment management/cash flows/retirement planning strategies Prepare materials for client and prospect meetings Provide support to external Sales Advisors throughout sales process Build proprietary portfolio cost and back-testing analyses Analyze annuities and insurance products Become competent in all firm technology platforms and business process Assist in account transition process

5 Wealth Advisor (6 Years) After gaining all the relevant skills and experience as an Analyst, you will be ready to start managing client relationships as a Wealth Advisor. You will be assigned clients and be the main point of contact. You will actively communicate with clients on a daily basis, providing advice on cash flows/tax planning strategies, estate/insurance issues, identify investment and retirement goals, and implement the recommendations with the assistance of the firm s support staff. Responsibilities: Serve as relationship management point of contact for clients Develop knowledge of clients financial/personal situation and discuss structured financial plans Provide advice on investment management/cash flows/retirement planning strategies Proactively communicate with clients on the implementation of given advice Assist in updating/maintaining financial plan Promote firm s value proposition and encourage referrals from existing clients Meet with high-net-worth referrals of clients to bring in new business; introduce the firm s retirement planning process (financial planning/tax planning/estate planning) to prospective clients Senior Wealth Advisor (10+ Years) Once you have demonstrated a track record of continued success in maintaining and serving a book of clients, you will have the opportunity to be promoted to a senior position within the firm. As a Senior Wealth Advisor, you will have the added responsibility to train other members in the PDP as well as assist the sales team in bringing on new clients. These added responsibilities will come with a new compensation structure and additional vacation benefits. Senior positions at The Mather Group are also entitled to join committees that help steer the operations and future direction of the firm.
