3 What is Hazard Mitigation? Any sustained action taken to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from hazard events."

4 What is Hazard Mitigation? It is a continuous process that occurs before, during and after disasters and serves to break the cycle of damage and repair in hazardous areas.

5 What is Hazard Mitigation Purpose? The purpose of Hazard Mitigation Planning is to identify policies and actions that can be implemented over the long-term to reduce risk and future losses.

6 Why Mitigate? Mitigation Generates Savings of Four to One and Enhances Community Resilience

7 Hazard Mitigation Plans are required by Federal law FEMA requires states, counties and their municipalities to have an approved Hazard Mitigation Plan in order to apply and/or receive Hazard Mitigation grant funding.
