1 CITY OF YUBA CITY STAFF REPORT Agenda Item 15 Date: April 4, 2017 To: From: Presentation By: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council Administration Steve Kroeger, City Manager Summary Subject: Priorities and Goals for Fiscal Year Recommendation: Fiscal Impact: Note & File the Summary of Discussion of the Priority and Goals for FY Workshop Informational item only Purpose: Establishing and confirming the Goals and Priorities of the City Council for the next fiscal year. Background: Annually, the City Council and Executive Team hold a Goal Setting workshop to review and define the priorities and goals for the next fiscal. This year s workshop was held on January 31, The main objectives of the workshop were to: Analysis: Review decisions made at last year s workshop Revisit the vision for Yuba City s future Articulate our core values and relate to the City s Vision and Goals Give guidance on budget priorities, including capital projects The City Council s long standing priorities remain: Public Safety (Police, Fire, Flood Control) o Provide Police Services to Annexed Areas of the City Develop our Economy Maintain and Improve our Infrastructure Develop Our Organization o Leadership Development Prepare for Growth Enhance Our Image/Reputation As part of the Workshop, Council and staff participated in an exercise to discuss the Vision for the City of Yuba City. Participants discussed ideas, values and provided a graphic regarding shared values for a community vision. These include: Agenda Item 15
2 Maintaining our small town feeling Leadership and succession planning o Employer of choice Healthy Community o Work-Shop-Live o Family friendly o Clean & Safe Economic Development Thriving 24/7 Workforce Development Be a destination o Regional Events Next Steps: A. Executive Staff will fine tune the results of Council goals and priorities and include them as part of the development of the FY 2017/18 Budget B. Include funding in the FY 2017/18 budget for the facilitation of joint public workshops with the City s Advisory Commissions (Planning, Economic Development, Parks and Recreation, Senior and Youth), along with the Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association, and other organizations in order to provide options and opportunities for community involvement and input C. Final recommendations from all the community input will be brought back to Council Fiscal Impact: Informational item only.
