5 WORKING WITH MINORS MORE IN-DEPTH APPLICATION PROCESS It is important to know that volunteers working with minors are drastically different than working with adults. Our process for recruiting and filling positions for our kids and student workers is more lengthy to ensure that we are filling those positions with the best qualified volunteers. SAFETY IS VITAL The safety of our young ones is vitally important to us at Red Mountain. We want to provide a place where kids can feel safe and secure. Also, we want parents to be confident knowing their children are being properly cared for in an environment condusive to their needs. BACKGROUND CHECKED All volunteers working with minors are required to undergo a full criminal background check (not financial). We believe in this so strongly, that we waive the fee for anyone volunteering for a position at Red Mountain. SAFEGUARDING PROCESS We believe it is our responsibility to protect the children in our care. Children (and parents) need to know that we have taken every reasonable step to ensure their children s safety in our ministry. We believe it is our responsibility to protect staff and volunteer workers in our ministry from being exposed to false accusations of sexual misconduct. To this end, we have screening and supervision policies in place to protect our ministry workers. We believe it is our responsibility to protect our ministry. By requiring child protection training, as well as implementing screening and supervision policies, we are modeling good safety procedures to others who look to our ministry as an example of a well-run ministry to children and youth. 6 FIRST IMPRESSIONS TEAM WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TEAM? Every time someone walks onto the grounds of our campus they get an impression about who we are as a church. Impressions are easily made from the moment they step out of the car to when they are leaving our campus following a service or event. We want to make sure we provide our newcomers, guests and regular attendees with an accurate representation of who we are as a church. We want to be outgoing, friendly, vibrant, courteous, informative, authentic and helpful. The purpose of this team is give a great first impression to everyone who walks on our campus. 9 STUDENT MINISTRIES TEAM WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TEAM? Youth is a such a formative stage of life. Ask any teenager and they can tell you of the challenges, struggles and lack of hope in our world today. This team exists to give students hope by showing them that they are made in the image of God. The Apostle Paul said, Follow me as I follow Christ, and we want to model that to our students. To some of our students we are the only Jesus they will see through the week. We want to instill eternal hope and Godly conviction into their hearts. In a moment of life when the realities of the world can seem harsh and unforgiving, we want to show them the love and forgiveness of Jesus. WHAT DOES THIS TEAM DO? If you were to come to a student ministries event, you would see a team of leaders strongly committed to the spiritual and social growth of our students. On a consistent basis, a leader will welcome students, enforce boundaries, teach the Bible, be a helping hand and of course (as the picture indicates) play some games. A FRIENDLY REMINDER What we do really flows out of who we are, so it is important that before volunteering consider your personal make-up (how God made you) and how you can best serve Red Mountain. 008 v o l u n t e e r t e a m s b o o k s t u d e n t m i n i s t r i e s t e a m s t u d e n t m i n i s t r i e s t e a m v o l u n t e e r t e a m s b o o k 009

14 WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS TEAM? We live in a visual world. So much can be represented through a picture or illustration. When someone sees our bulletin, a powerpoint, a banner, etc. they are already forming ideas about our values, beliefs and identity. In a nutshell, our primary purpose is to communicate the mission of Red Mountain to our church and community. CREATIVE SERVICES TEAM WHAT DOES THIS TEAM DO? In a general sense, this team creates the visual identity of our church. Practically speaking, we work with different elements of design to make sure the mission of Red Mountain is going forward.
