1 Valley River Humane Society Monthly Meeting September 17, 2015 The monthly meeting of the Valley River Humane Society was held August 20, 2015 at 6:00 pm, at the Penland Senior Center in Murphy. Directors Present Absent Jonathan Hart, President Lou Leggett, Vice President Davalee Hitchcock, Secretary Wanda Payne, Treasurer Jeri Ruth Roberts Robin Kline Dave Langley The meeting was called to order at 6:01 by President Jonathan Hart. There were 7 board members and 5 general members in attendance. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Wanda Payne, presented the treasurer's report, a copy of which is attached and a part of these minutes. Fundraising Committee Report: Jeri Ruth reminded everyone of the hot dog sale for Old Farmer's Day at Sav-a- lot Grocery. We will begin at 10:00and stay un it there are no more people coming. Millie Shank is going to provide the chili and onions. Mark Brousseau will provide chips. We will sell hot dog, chips, and drink for $2.00. Jeri Ruth asked for volunteers to work. Volunteers were divided o time slots. Jeri Ruth announced the meeting time for the November and December meeting. Due to those normal meeting dates falling on holidays, she has schec: uled the November meeting for November 12, and the December meeting will be a Christmas party on December 10. Thrift Store Report: Thift store manager Debbie Reprogle, reported sales in August were $18, August to date sales figure is $18, Shelter Report: In the absence of shelter manager Mark Brousseau, Davalee Hitchcock presented the shelter report, a copy of which is attached and part of These minutes. 1

2 Outside Adoption Events Committee: Valley River will hold an adoption event at the Folk School Fall Festival on October 3 rd & 4 th. Volunteers are needed tc walk dogs. Old Business: Jonathan reported that the place where he was planning on getting truck signage and banners has closed, He will look further into a place for us to obtain signage for the truck, banners and T-shirts. The possibility of erecting a fenced play area at the shelter was discussed. Jonathan suggested that we begin a campaign to seek donations for a fund to construct a nice play area for the dogs. New Business: It was noted that any business that we do with Andrews Veterinary in the future will be paid by credit card rather than on account. Don Hienze addressed the board regarding a gift to VRHS of his house. He is to be able to stay in the house until his death. Jonathan and Lou will meet with Don's a:torney and will meet on Monday to see the house. Lou reported that he had treated the well at the shelter. R.J. Thomas will be coming out next week to scrape the road at the shelter. Lou agreed to help him. R.J. Thomas volunteered to do some fostering and working with dogs. We appreciate his offer and Davalee will meet with him and discuss. Dave Langley reported that Bob Davis has offered to help with transports. Dave will be in charge of scheduling volunteer drivers for transports. It was brought up that Dr. Cranford has offered to purchase medicines for us at his costs. We would like for ark to talk with him to set that up. October is "Adopt a Shelter Dog" month. It was decided that we would have an open house at the shelter on tober 17 to celebrate. We will offer refreshments an reduced adoption fees. Mark will coordinate all efforts at the Iter for this event. Volunteers will provide refreshme ts.
