2 Key Takeaways for Today How economic impact is measured California s Travel Impact El Dorado County Travel Impact How does El Dorado measure up with our neighbors State & Regional Market Share Benefits of tourism to residents

3 How the Economic Impact is Measured Terms & Definitions you should know Economic impacts are based on Statewide Visitor Trips." Statewide Visitors Trips = taken by individuals who stay overnight away from home, or travel more than 50 miles one way on a non-routine trip. **This definition of a visitor is derived from the California Tourism Marketing Act. Terms & Definitions: Other spending = resident air travel, travel arrangement and reservation services, & convention and trade show organizers. Non-transportation visitor spending = accommodations, food services, retail, food stores, and arts, entertainment & recreation. Visitor transportation spending = private auto, auto rental, other local ground transportation & one-way airfares. Earnings - wages & salaries, earned benefits and proprietor income. Employment - full and part-time employment of payroll employees & proprietors

4 How the Economic Impact is Measured Definitions of Tax Revenue Local tax revenue includes lodging, sales & auto rental taxes and airport passenger facility charges paid by visitors, and the property tax payments and sales tax payments attributable to the travel industry income of employees and businesses. State tax revenue includes lodging, sales and motor fuel tax payments of visitors, income tax & sales tax payments attributable to the travel industry income of businesses and employees. Federal tax revenue includes motor fuel excise taxes and airline ticket taxes paid by visitors, and the payroll and income taxes attributable to the travel industry income of employees and businesses
