3 EXHIBIT A REPORT OF GIFT OR DONATION DALLAS ISD TAX IDENTIFICATION NUMBER UPON REQUEST Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) is not a tax-exempt entity under the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code Section 501(c)(3). However, according to the IRS Code Section 170(c), Dallas ISD may receive tax-deductible charitable contributions if the contributions are made solely for public purposes, such as benefiting a group and not an individual. This IRS code also states that a charitable contribution is any donation or gift to, or for the use of, a qualified organization. Dallas ISD falls within the IRS definition of a qualified organization as it is a public school district and is a political subdivision of the State of Texas. Contributions may be made to Dallas ISD, Dallas ISD schools or departments, and various District groups and clubs. The District s tax-exempt status does not apply to the various parent or community organizations, such as PTAs and booster clubs, which support Dallas ISD schools and students. 5 EXHIBIT B THANK YOU LETTERS Writing the Thank You Letter Use District letterhead. Send the note within 30 days of receiving the gift or service. Address your thank you letter to the person who rendered the service or provided the gift. If you are on a first-name basis with the giver, use an informal salutation, otherwise keep it formal. In the first few lines, explain why you are writing. Refer to the activity, donation, or service that generated the note. Never write anything that may be perceived as belittling of the service or gift. If appropriate, offer some form of reciprocation such as an invitation to a school event or demonstration of the gift in action. Suggest ways the donor can maintain the relationship with your school or department. Close with your full name and title. Enclose the completed copy of the Acknowledgment and Documentation of Donation form if it has not yet been provided to the donor. DATE ISSUED: 3/28/ of 2
