An investor friendly environment Over the last 40 years Mauri7us successfully transformed its economy, evolving from a mono- crop (sugar cane) economy to a new, diversified economic model, based on innova7on and know- how. Mauri7us has developed an important tourism industry, has reinforced its know- how and exper7se in the tex7le sector and became the most important financial hub of Africa. Mauri7us ranks regularly 1st in Africa's Democracy Index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit and is categorized as full democracy. For the sixth consecu7ve year, the World Bank s 2014 Doing Business report ranks Mauri7us first among African economies (20th worldwide, out of 189 economies) in terms of overall ease of doing business.
An investor friendly environment Mauri7us has a strong track record within the global investment community using its financial plamorm for inves7ng in or serving emerging countries. The private sector is dynamic, very recep7ve to foreign investment and open for joint venture collabora7ons. By leveraging its strategic posi7on at the crossroads of Africa, Asia and Australia, Mauri7us is gradually transforming itself into a hub and an interna7onal jurisdic7on for investors in search of security, transparent regula7on and high value- addi7on. Investors are protected by the hybrid legal system based on English and French laws. The Highest Court of Appeal is the Privy Council in the U.K. Moreover Mauri7us is member of the Interna7onal Court of Jus7ce, the Interna7onal Centre for Seqlements of Investment Disputes and the Mul7lateral Investment Guarantee Agency.
An investor friendly environment Mauri7us also offers a full protec7on of foreign investments in key na7ons through its network of Investment Promo7on Protec7on Agreements (IPPA's) which guarantee Mauri7an investment with respect to expropria7on and social unrest in contrac7ng states. They also provide for arrangements for seqlement of disputes between investors and the contrac7ng states. Mauri7us has signed IPPA's with 36 countries. Mauri7us shows a long and solid banking tradi7on and corporate culture. Over the years a number of interna7onal banks, funds, accountancy firms, and other financial ins7tu7ons have been incorporated in the country and have successfully serviced the Mauri7an Interna7onal Financial Centre. With a view to facilita7ng the implementa7on of investment projects, the Board of Investment (the na7onal investment promo7on agency of the Government of Mauri7us) works in close collabora7on with Government bodies, ins7tu7ons and private sector companies. BOI also assists investors in the growth, nurturing and diversifica7on of their business.
An investor friendly environment The OECD has classified Mauri7us as a jurisdic7on that has substan7ally implemented interna7onally agreed tax and transparency standards (whitelisted jurisdic7on). Mauri7us fiscal regime is simple: Harmonized corporate and income tax ranging from 3% to 15% No tax on dividends No capital gains tax No inheritance tax > 37 Double Taxa7on Agreements (DTA) signed with leading OECD countries 100% foreign ownership is allowed There is no exchange control, moreover, thanks to the bilateral agreements, the free repatria7on of profit is granted with no addi7onal withholding tax on dividends, royal7es and interests.
An investor friendly environment Mauri7us fosters free educa7on 7ll ter7ary level, the rate of graduates is similar to any Western country. There is a good pool of educated, bilingual (English and French), white and blue collar popula7on with working experience in key sectors.
