2 Methodology The event was organised together with the network partner and observer the economic chamber Graz Follow me - service for business transfer of the chamber of commerce. Target Groups invited: SMEs (interested in selling or buyer a company) Regional economic chamber Business Support Organisations Consultants of expert group Other experts The location was in Hartberg, Steiermark Steiermärkischen Sparkasse Bank and member of expert group follow me It was juiced to have the communication of the project also in surrounding regions of the city of Graz. We contacted the potential companies via and telephone and explained them in detail the purpose, objectives and possibility. The AlpCafe was moderated by an external Moderator as the last time. Information about the existing expert group in Styria (was also part of report AlpCafeI) The Follow me network of experts exists about 10 years. The aspect of trans-national business transfer was a clearly new aspect for the group of experts. Follow me - service for business transfer of the chamber of commerce Follow me is a joint initiative of WKO Styria. The initiative is sponsored by the economics department of Land Styria - by the Styrian Business Promotion Agency - SFG. The initiative will be accompanied by renowned project partners: Bank - Steiermärkische Sparkasse, Chamber of Public Accountants, expert group of engineering offices and Austrian chamber of notaries. The focus of the topics (how do I make my company fit for transnational BT) was selected together with the experts.see further information on the participant s description. 2

4 Main topics in discussion How to find experts with C-TEMAlp How to find seller/buyer with C-TEMAlp Web portal and service for transnational BT "Future Fit - Ready for Transfer & Succession" Economic chamber Styria follow me and the experts worked in the last year on the topic "Future Fit - Ready for Transfer & Succession". Under the aspect that a well-running company, will be easier to sell, the focus of the activities with the entrepreneurs is on "future fit". Innovative potential in companies plays an important role here. A valuable input was the Alpcafe 1 and also the performed panel of the last periods. Also face to face discussion with companies done by staff of IRS in the frame of the project and the expert group gave input to improve the BT service in Styria and establishing the service for transnational BT Service, which is still develping. Main findings One of the most asked questions from the participants are: how does it work regarding tax and legal aspects of business transfer on regional and transnational level Specific business transfer aspects: tax, accounting, financial, labor and legal issues it is absolute necessary to have a functional service to these aspects - Interaction of the experts of the respective countries of the buyer / seller. It has to be paid more attention on start ups. Here is a big potential for BT. Fundings and Financing (in AT eg go international ) Innovation potential to make the company fit for business-transfer - was an important input from the expert - especial when family-business decide that they want to sell out-side of the family, they do not invest anymore this affects the selling price. On the other hand there are examples, where owners decide to make the company fit for the market (together with expert) by developing new strategies or finding innovation potential (eg. product development). The upgraded situation shows a visible improvement of the economic aspects. What happend in some cases is that the company owners do not want to sell anymore and keep the business (or transfer in the family). 4
