1 Louth County Council (Comhairle Contae Lu) Clerical Officer Qualifications Character Candidates shall be of good character. Health Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Education, Training, Experience Each candidate must: 1. have obtained at least Grade D ( a Pass), in Higher Ordinary Level, in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education Established Leaving Certificate Examination Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme, 2. have passed an examination of at least equivalent standard 3. have had at least two year's previous service in an office of Clerical Officer, Clerk/Typist (Clerical Duties), Clerk Typist (Typing and Clerical Duties) Clerk/Typist under a local authity, health board in the State. 4. have satisfacty relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills.

2 The Job: The nature of the wk carried out by clerical staff may vary depending on the business being conducted by Louth County Council. This will involve such clerical/administrative tasks as may be assigned to the employee from time to time. The following reflects the typical duties you may be required to undertake, if appointed: General clerical wk e.g. filing, photocopying, answering/making telephone calls, dealing with s, reception desk duties, etc. under the supervision of a designated manager; Suppting line-managers and colleagues; Wking as part of a team in delivering services; Communicating and dealing with the public/customers e.g. responding to queries and providing infmation face-to-face, by telephone via ; Providing the highest quality standards in customer service; Using Infmation Technology on a daily basis e.g. wd processing, spreadsheets, database, and internet; Maintaining high quality recds in a though and ganised manner; Checking all wk thoughly to ensure it is completed to a high standard; Carrying out routine accounts wk; Approaching wk in a careful and methodical manner, displaying accuracy at all times, even when conducting routine/repetitive wk. Any other duties deemed appropriate.

3 Louth County Council Office of Clerical Officer Particulars of Office 1. The office is wholetime, permanent and pensionable. Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authity who are liable to pay the Class A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authity at the rate of 1.5% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of the net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributy pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant qualified children). Persons who become pensionable officers of a local authity who are liable to pay the Class D rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authity at the rate of 5% of their pensionable remuneration. All persons who become pensionable officers of a local authity will be required in respect of the Local Government (Spouses and Children s Contributy Pension) Scheme to contribute to the local authity at the rate of 1.5%of their pensionable remuneration in accdance with the terms of the scheme. New members joining the Public Sect after the 1 st January 2013 will be required to join the Single Public Service Pension Scheme. A rate of PRSI contribution will be required in respect of their superannuation to contribute to the local authity at the rate of 3% of their pensionable remuneration plus 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (i.e. pensionable remuneration less twice the annual rate of social insurance old age contributy pension payable at the maximum rate to a person with no adult dependant qualified children). This includes a contribution to a Spouse s and Children s Scheme 2. SALARY The salary shall be fully inclusive and shall be as determined from time to time. The holder of the office shall pay to the local authity any fees other monies (other than his/her inclusive salary) payable to and received by him/her by virtue of his/her office in respect of services which he/she is required by under any enactment to perfm. Salary - 21,893-37,339

DUTIES The duties shall be such clerical/administrative as shall be assigned by the local authity from time to time, and shall include the duty of deputising f other officers of the local authity when required. The duties shall also include such duties as may be assigned in relation to the area of any other local authity. 4. HEALTH F the purpose of satisfying the requirements as to health, it may be necessary f the successful candidate, befe he/she is appointed, to undergo at his/her expense a medical examination by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the local authity. On taking up appointment, the expense of the medical examination will be refunded to the candidate. 5. PROBATION Where a person, who is not already a permanent officer of a local authity, is appointed, the following provisions shall apply: (b) there will be a probationary period of 9 months from date of employment, (c) the Manager may at his her discretion extend this period, (d) you shall cease to hold office at end of the period of probation unless during this period the Manager has certified that your service is satisfacty. 6. RESIDENCE The holder of the office shall reside in the district in which his/her duties are to be perfmed within a reasonable distance, thereof. 7. RECRUITMENT Pursuant to Article 8 of the Local Government (Appointment of Officers) Regulations, 1974 the Minister has given directions as follows:- (i) Selection shall be by means of a competition based on interview conducted by on behalf of Louth County Council. (ii) A panel may be fmed on the basis of such interview. Candidates whose names are on a panel and who satisfy the Louth County Council that they possess the qualifications declared f the office and

5 that they are otherwise suitable f appointment may within the life of the panel be appointed as appropriate vacancies arise. 9. PERIOD FOR ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER Louth County Council shall require persons to whom appointment is offered to confirm acceptance of offer within two weeks and to take up such appointment within a period of not me than six weeks from iginal offer. If they fail to take up the appointment within such period, any longer period mutually agreed, Louth County Council shall not appoint them. Canvassing will automatically disqualify.
