7 TASB HR Services announces New Service for Outplaced School Employees Beginning this May, HR Services will offer another way that districts can help employees who are losing their jobs while also reducing district unemployment costs. A one day workshop to prepare employees for their next job search can be provided in your district by TASB s professional human resource consultants. This workshop will teach employees how to clarify their career options and goals and develop new job search skills for today s job market. Participants will receive a workbook with exercises to help them develop knowledge and skills for a job search and build their resume. Fresh Start: Building New Skills to Find Your Next Job Handling a career transition Focusing your strengths and accomplishments Completing your own resume builder Finding the open job markets and the informal job markets The best online job search sites Online applications and how to get noticed Preparing for behavioral interviews Presenting your strengths Developing your follow up action plan The workshop is scheduled from 9:00 to 4:00 and capacity is limited. TRS: Types of Retirement Normal Age Service Retirement (page 27) means that a retiree s annuitywill not be subject to an early age retirement reduction in the amount payable; Qualifications: TRS member prior to 9/1/07 You are age 65 with five or more years of service credit OR Your age and years of service credit total 80 AND you have at least five years of service credit. TRS member or returned to membership AFTER 9/1/07 / You are age 65 with five or more years of service credit OR You are at least age 60, AND your age and years of service credit total 80, AND you have at least five years of service credit. 7

8 Types of Retirement contd. Early Age Service Retirement (page 35) the retiree is entitled to receive a payment of a lifetime monthly annuity. The annuity is calculated according to the standard annuity benefit formula in effect when the member retires but reduced for early age according to actuarial tables. Qualifications: TRS member prior to 9/1/07 You are at least age 55 with five or more years of service credit OR You are any age below age 50 with 30 or more years of service credit TRS member or returned to membership AFTER 9/1/07 / you are at least age 55 with five or more years of service credit; OR your age and service credit total 80 but you are less than age 60 with at least five years of service credit; OR you have 30 years of service credit but you are less than age 60 Types of Retirement contd. Disability Retirement (page 38) As a member, regardless of your age or years of service credit, you may apply for disability retirement if: you are mentally or physically disabled from the further performance of your duty, and your disability is probably permanent your disability is probably permanent Monthly annuity varies; 10 years of service? 8

Proportionate Retirement (page 40) A person who has active membership credit in more than one Texas public statewide retirement system may be eligible to combine all of their service credit to satisfy eligibility requirements to retire under TRS. Those wishing to retire in other systems may also be eligible to combine their TRS service credit for this purpose.
