Our mission is to empower women to make educated, confident decisions about their finances. Women often see things through a unique lens, especially when it comes to their wealth and planning. At AXA Advisors, we specialize in understanding both the challenges that women face AND the approach that women prefer in planning. Over the last few years, we ve developed the idea of Women Talk Finance, where our female financial professionals could focus on women s financial needs. As part of this initiative, we host seminars to help educate our clients and spur discussion. Now, in our first newsletter, we d like to introduce ourselves and present a few planning ideas. Our group is made up of several financial professionals with different personal and educational backgrounds, as well as particular areas of experience. We are committed to serving our clients to the best of our ability, and will work as a team to provide the highest level of care and experience to meet a client s needs. 2 Sandwiched? Taking care of your parents, your children, and planning for retirement? Many professional women find themselves in the challenging position of caring for aging parents while also raising their children a classic Sandwich Generation dilemma. As a result, women may find themselves juggling the needs of their parents and children while also allocating energy to their career, marriage, retirement planning, and other priorities. For many, this can mean planning for retirement doesn t get the attention it needs. During a time of many life changes, milestones, and responsibilities, it s important that you keep your own financial objectives in mind. Knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Here are some small, manageable steps to help balance your long- and short-term financial needs. Keep saving Even if you have to use your income to supplement your parents care while also providing for your family, do not stop saving for retirement. By saving for retirement, you are helping to ensure your own financial future, which will put you and your family in a better financial position when you get older. Preserve your retirement fund When financing higher education, your children can apply for scholarships, loans, and financial aid. However, these options do not exist for either your retirement or your parents retirement. As future expenses unfold for yourself, children, and aging parents it s important that you do not dip into your retirement savings to meet current needs. Share the responsibility If you have children approaching college, explain to them that they may need to take on more of the financial responsibility of funding their education. For adult children who have moved back home because of their own financial struggles, set parameters around how much you are willing to support them financially and a timeline for them to find a place of their own. Communicate Talk to your parents about their own retirement planning. Work with them to identify their assets that will help offset their care and medical benefits, and reduce (or eliminate) your contributions. Also discuss the possibility of having them obtain long-term care insurance, which can help secure your parents finances without putting a burden on you. Plan ahead Not only should you plan to save for retirement, you should also plan to grow and protect your assets once you are retired. Don t forget to take into account your own potential medical needs and the possibility that someday you too may need long-term care. It s impossible to predict exactly what expenses will come your way; if large or unexpected expenses arise, you certainly do not want it to compromise your family s comfortable lifestyle. You also don t want to give up some of the things that give you fulfillment perhaps travel, time with friends, or professional development. 3 Changing Jobs? What happens with your retirement savings and health insurance when you change jobs? Your retirement savings - All of the contributions you made to your prior employer s retirement savings plan, as well as any vested employer contributions, are yours. And you have a few options when deciding what to do with them. Roll the Funds into your new retirement plan or your own IRA. This option helps ensure that you can manage all of your savings through one consolidated account. It can also be an opportunity to make a change if you aren t happy with the choice of performance of your old plan s investment options. Leave the funds in your prior employer s plan. If you leave your savings in your old plan, you won t be able to make any new contributions. And if you also enroll in your new company s plan, you ll have more than one account to manage. But if your former employer s plan offered better funds than your new employer s, you may want to consider leaving your money right where it is. Take a lump-sum payment. Beware: You ll end up paying income tax at current rates on the withdrawal, plus a mandatory 10% penalty (if you re under age 59) if you choose that option. That can make taking a lump-sum distribution a costly proposition. Here are the advisors behind Women Talk Finance Wendy Baum JD, CPA, CDFA Wendy is dedicated to helping individuals and businesses address their financial goals, customizing each plan to fit the client s financial objectives and investment risk comfort. She works with a team of financial professionals who have decades of financial services experience, and for each client they carefully consider risk protection strategies as well as wealth accumulation strategies. Tammy Butts, CLU, ChFC Tammy is a Regional Executive Vice President with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. She built a successful practice providing financial planning strategies and guidance to families and business owners. Tammy has hired and developed a successful, diverse team of financial professionals, and has been recognized with several management awards. Tammy has earned the advanced designations of Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). Diana Chernyhovsky, CFP With over 10 years of experience as a Financial Advisor, Diana has extensive expertise working with a diverse set of insurance and investment products. Diana is focused on developing meaningful and long term relationships with her clients to help them define and meet their financial goals. She uses custom approaches to client portfolios and prides herself on providing a high level of personal attention to her clients. She became a Certified Financial Planner TM (CFP ) in Katherine Downing Katherine Downing started with AXA Advisors, LLC in She comes from a family of teachers, and that made her a great fit for the Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), a specialized division of AXA Advisors, LLC. Although this group focuses on helping those who work for schools and non-profits, she also assists young families start their financial plan and those transitioning into retirement. Katherine is passionate about helping individuals save for retirement, provide protection for their family, and meet their financial goals. Amanda Gilb Amanda Gilb started with AXA Advisors, LLC in 2017 and is a second-generation AXA Advisors Financial Professional. She is part of the Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), a specialized division of AXA Advisors, LLC, which focuses on helping those who work for public schools, non-profit organizations, and municipalities. Amanda has her FINRA series 7 and 66 licenses as well as her Illinois Health and Life insurance licenses. As a mother of two, she is passionate about providing financial education to all families.

5 Joanna Grabala Joanna Grabala started with AXA Advisors, LLC in Her focus is on Investment, Retirement, and insurance planning. She is part of the Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), a specialized division which focuses on helping those who work for public schools, nonprofit organizations, and municipalities. In March of 2014, Joanna received her certification as a Retirement Benefit Specialist for Tax Sheltered Plans. She is passionate about helping individuals and families build their wealth and meet their financial goals. Elizabeth Grady Elizabeth Grady focuses on business owners, families and individuals. She has attained her FINRA Series 7 & 66 licenses and is currently pursuing her CFP, CHFC & CLU designations. Elizabeth is particularly interested in having members of her generation embrace a financial plan, which will give them confidence for various challenges. She firmly believes that if one has a balanced, well-thought out strategy, a person will be able to more strongly navigate the peaks and valleys of life with the added benefit of helping others. Kate B. Leipprandt, CFP, ChFC, CLU Kate Leipprandt has been a financial advisor since 1986 and is a 3rd generation AXA Advisor. Kate has her CFP, ChFC and CLU and specializes in financial planning. She also has taught many classes on the topic. She is involved in fee-based financial planning, consulting and education for individuals, associations and small business. Kate has a talent for making difficult topics easier to understand, and donates her time and expertise to speak, mentor, teach and host financial workshops. Clare Nawrocki Clare Nawrocki started with AXA Advisors, LLC in She is part of the Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), a specialized division of AXA Advisors, LLC, which focuses on helping those who work for public schools, non-profit organizations, and municipalities. Clare recognizes the different approaches women take towards everday situations. She is passionate about helping individuals establish a secure retirement by focusing on current needs and future goals. Maja Sobolewska Maja Sobolewska is a financial professional who is dedicated to providing competent, clientoriented strategies in a wide variety of critical financial areas. They include retirement plan funding, risk management, estate conservation, business continuation strategies, as well as assessment and design of executive and employee benefits. Maja joined AXA Advisors in 2005 and holds her Property and Casualty license, Life and Health licenses, and her FINRA series 7 and 66. She is fluent in Polish as well as English.

6 Ivory Stewart Ivory Stewart started with AXA Advisors in 2015 and is part of the Retirement Benefits Group (RBG), a specialized division of AXA Advisors, LLC. Within this specialty, she strives to provide financial education for public school educators and staff, as well as those in colleges and univiersities, non-profits, and municipalities. She believes that by guiding our clients to make financially sound decisions, we are making a difference in the futures for many households, on person at a time. Jaclyn Unger Jaclyn Unger has been in the business for over 7 years, and joined AXA Advisors in She works with both personal and business planning, and focuses on planning for real estate professionals. Jaclyn s mission is to assist clients in mapping out their financial goals, then helping them to select the appropriate strategies to meet their objectives. She understands that a sound financial strategy takes commitment and planning, and is dedicated to helping her clients build secure financial futures.
