6 Impact: Renminbi valuation The Centre s analysis supports OECD-China dialogue on politically sensitive question of currency valuation Based on the Balassa-Samuelson effect*, Helmut Reisen, Head of Research, calculates that the renminbi is only undervalued by 12% Chen Deming, China s Minister of Commerce, praised Reisen s estimate as being very objective when he spoke with the Secretary General in Beijing. * The Balassa-Samuelson measure separates out undervaluation due to level of economic development from that due to policy manipulation. 6

21 Key achievement: Accessible statistics The Centre s data, statistics and analysis are more accessible than ever Social Institutions and Gender Index A comprehensive database and index on gender, culture and social institutions available at genderindex.org The AfricanEconomicOutlook.org Comparable data and analysis online, for free, and accessible through lower-band connections Improved the accessibility and usability of the index by introducing mygenderindex.org (an interactive version of SIGI) and the Gender Atlas Recognised as a leading reference website by the Interactive Media Council.
