His name was not in the register. This month s drawing is worth $ Plan now to attend. Remember it does not cost to attend the monthly meeting. It Pays!!! LOCAL LODGE 873 EXECUTIVE BOARD PRESIDENT VICE-PRESIDENT Theresa Wagner RECORDING SECRETARY Marla Ryan FIN.SECRETARY/ TREASURER David Berezinski CONDUCTOR/SENTINEL Cindy Haselow TRUSTEES Brian Trotter, Darrel Schepp Shawn Gubine MEMBERS AT LARGE Tammy-Jo Baer Doug Flouro Paul Rabe EDITORS Marla Ryan, Theresa Wagner Safety Report Brothers and Sisters, I hope you had a Safe Christmas and a Happy New Year. Here we are three days into the New Year. Let us all come to work with the task we have to do in our mind so that we can work Safely. And leave in the same condition we arrived in. I am sure we all have had to use our manual or power snow removal equipment over the last couple weeks. Remember that when you are using power equipment for snow removal, or power equipment for any other task, that this equipment does not differentiate between you and the task it was made to perform. If you have to work on power equipment remember to disable the equipment before working on it. Also remember there is also a potential for stored energy. That means when you clear out the piece that has bound in the machinery, there is a potential for the bound parts to move, which could cause you to become entangled in the equipment. So be careful and safe. Doug Flouro Joint Union Safety Chr. Thank You I would like to thank the membership for their generous donation to the giving tree this year that benefited my family. Your support and prayers have been greatly appreciated. Luke has now entered another phase of chemo and continues to struggle with various health issues related to his treatments. He does all this with a very positive attitude and we are very proud of him. This whole experience has been both overwhelming and very humbling. It is nice to know we live and work in community that still helps one another out in a time of need. ( Be the match. Help fight childhood leukemia. January 2013 Forever Grateful, The Gartland Family

2 President s Report Brothers and Sisters, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and enjoyed the shutdown. I d like to thank you all for your support and encouragement during the last election cycle. I continue to look forward to taking on the challenges confronting us in the days to come. It is both an honor and a privilege to serve you all in this capacity. I d also like to thank all of those who ran for a position; the level of respect each of you showed each other was unprecedented. As we move forward into 2013, we all have to ask ourselves a few questions. What direction do we need to be taking our Local in to improve welfare of our members and the organization? How are we going to do any of this coming off of the worst economic crisis since The Great Depression? The ways in which we going to tackle these issues are the way in which we as members of the Machinists Union take on all of the issues we face, head on. Our duties and responsibilities as Union members require all of us to do our part. I encourage all of you to consider becoming more involved, if we want to be more successful, we have to continue to improve our union to be successful. Whether it s signing petitions, writing letters, or getting on one of our various committees, we need to all do our part together to secure our future. Teamwork is the key to a strong and successful Union. One of my responsibilities as President is to keep members informed about what is happening in our Local. I try to do this through a variety of ways. These newsletters, our Facebook account, and through our steward network are some examples. Your Executive Board has met and reviewed the results of the recent elections. You have elected new members to various positions and I have compiled the results of your Steward elections and they are printed in this newsletter. The Officers, Delegates and Committees list, while subject to change throughout the year, is also in it. With the election of new stewards, the most effective tool we can give our stewards is education so they can effectively represent us. We will be holding a stewards training class at the hall for all of the newly elected stewards soon. In the class, stewards will review their roles and responsibilities, learn how to determine what are grievances vs. complaints, learn how to investigate and write up grievances, review the contract and overtime manual, learn about the 7 tests for just cause and the Duty of Fair Representation. This class will help prepare them for what they can expect to see, how to deal with issues we face and how to find acceptable resolutions. The District s Joint Installation Dinner will be held on Sat. Jan 26 th, which is held primarily to pay a tribute to the incoming and outgoing members, staff and friends in the labor movement and is a great time to mingle with fellow union brothers and sisters. The Wisconsin State Council of Machinists will be holding their 2013 Spring Conference in Madison from Feb The Wisconsin Labor History Society has its High School Essay Contest open with a $500 1 st prize. And the 2013 IAM Scholarship is now open of application as well. If you would like more information on any of the topics, mentioned, just let me know. We have been successful this last fall in electing a number of pro-worker candidates to office. There are a lot of you participated in rallies, distributing hand outs with information on the candidates and even going door to door to get the word out. However, it is not the time to kick back and say we have done our part, now the elected officials can take over. Continuing to let them know where we stand on issues such as health care, free trade, middle class taxes, the freedom to join a union, social security and many other issues need to be continually told for us to make progress in all of these important areas. Don t hesitate to call you representatives and let them know where you stand. In Solidarity,

Attendance for Snow Days There have been an extreme amount of calls and people stopping at the Union Hall related to the recent heavy snow fall on Dec. 20 th and 21 st. As we are all aware there is a no fault attendance policy in place. Union Dues 2013 What is the new formula for the union dues calculation? Everyone s dues are figured out separate using the time period from September 1 st of 2011 to August 31 st of 2012 the following year. Below is what s included in the formula: Straight time pay TCP reserves Ratification Bonus Profit sharing Vacation bonus Sub pay Christmas Bonus 1.25% Christmas Shutdown Call-in Pay Bereavement Pay Lump Sum Payment BAA payout All these buckets are all totaled together, then divided by the Total Qualified Straight Time Hours which gives you a sum and then multiplied by two and add either $12.00 or $15.00 to give your Union Dues Rate for the year The Grand Lodge Per Capita for 2013 will be $ The District per capita is $13.40 for The AFL-CIO per capita is $0.95 for 2013 and the South Central Labor per capita is $0.55 for This gives a total of $47.20 per caps we have to pay for We also put $0.25/member /month in the strike fund & $0.10/member/month into the emergency fund until we reach the maximum of $25, The minimum the dues for 2013 will be is $59.20 which is: the total per-capitas plus $ So every ones dues will be different by determining the amount that is calculated from the buckets above for each employee. I also have a master copy of all the dues calculations from the company and if any member has questions on how their dues were figured out you can stop in at my office and see them during my hours at the Union Hall. Hope everybody had a good Christmas holiday shutdown. Hope to see you at the union meeting. If you need to know what you paid for union dues for the year 2012 if you are filing the long form for your taxes for 2012 give me a call or stop by and I will let you know. There are still some that owe reinstatement fees from 2012, that have not paid yet. You need to get them paid as soon as possible. A reminder that if you change address, phone number or get married and change your name, let me know because John Deere does not let me know. You can call ext. 23. David Berezinski/Secretary/Treasurer Items that never are included = Shift premium, Lead man pay, overtime, VML pay or VML hours and any SUB pay for time off by the Day or Week. This calculation takes place each year and your dues could go up or down depending upon the change in total dollars of each of the buckets and the total amount of hours worked in that year.

5 TCP CORNER Bob Mallon Union TCP REP. Brothers and Sisters, Let s take a look back at the month of December for TCP. We ended 2012 with 20 TCP disputes. We currently have only three of 2012 TCP dispute still open and starting in January Joe Van Fossen and I will be scheduling time with the teams to provide them with answers for their disputes. The last few months have been very busy discussing the ramp up plans for the new model year from D850, D470, and now we are starting to add D950 and D953 into the mix. D700 and D703 are progressing in their Alternate pay plans and the company expects to have them at their final base number in the next few months. The new face in L.R. Mark Czerwinski (the Labor Relations Administrator) has been working two to three days a week in Horicon and has been freeing Joe up to spend more time in TCP. The last I was informed Mark should be here full time in February and I am sure is getting anxious to take his place in the TCP Steering Committee and the TCP Dispute Resolution Committee. The Shop Committee also held its yearly reorganizational meeting and I would like to Welcome Dale Deibert to the TCP Dispute Resolution Committee. Dale will be taking the position on the TCP Dispute Resolution Committee previously held by. Joe will still sit on TCP Steering Committee along with Dale Deibert,, Matt Grabarkiewicz and I. I know that it is very early in the year, but with the TCP Teams performing well the hourly BAA rate is starting out the year with two months reporting at % so great job everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break and I look forward to once again working with all of you in the upcoming year. Yours in Solidarity, Bob Mallon Machinists Union Local 873 Horicon, WI and the South Central Federation of Labor Over $400 and 40 presents for children were donated by the Union members of Local Lodge 873 in Horicon, WI and the SCFL for the Elks Club Christmas Basket Program. The Elks Club is a great organization that really helps the community Brath stated, and the union membership is proud to help with this event. 6 Legislative Report Fiscal Cliff or Fiscal Crisis? In order to make the Fiscal Cliff deadline, the agreement passed by the Senate, is a breakthrough in beginning to restore tax fairness and achieves some key goals of working families as responded by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. There were some positive things in the bill that was passed. It does not cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits. It raises more than $700 billion over 10 yrs, including interest savings, by ending the Bush income tax cuts for families making more than $450,000 a year. Unemployment benefits were extended for over 2 million Americans who are still looking for work. The Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit were extended for the next 5 years. Some progressives feel that in order to make the Fiscal Cliff deadline, the White House chose to cut a bad deal in order to make the overhyped deadline. They feel we should have waited for a new Congress to be sworn in on January 3 rd, including progressive champions like Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Baldwin, and a House with more Democrats and fewer Tea Party Republicans. The White House made the Bush tax cuts permanent for a huge chunk of the wealthiest 2%, giving away much needed leverage for staving off future cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits. The deal didn t address the debt limit or the triggered cuts set in place by the failed 2010 debt ceiling deal. So.. In just 2 months we ll reach a crisis again, because a key leverage point for raising revenue (rolling back tax cuts on the wealthiest Americans) has been surrendered, we will be in the fight of our life to protect our Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from benefit cuts. WOMENS/HUMAN RIGHTS 2012 was very busy for the Women s Committee selling candy bars, donating baskets for different fund raisers, donating time for Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics, the Holiday Bazaar, Adopt a Highway, Angel Trees and Food for the All Union Picnic is expected to be just as busy with community service projects already in the works. If you have extra time on your hands and would like to get involved we are looking for new members. If meetings aren t your thing but community service is you can still be involved. Information on upcoming events will be given at the union meetings or in the 873 News or Contact any Women s Committee member. Next meeting is January 8 (Tuesday) 3:30pm at the Union Hall Committee members: Theresa Wagner, Tera Peotter, Yolanda Pillsbury, Melissa Searvogel
