2 Board Created the Police Advisory Committee 2 September 15, 2015 Develop and present to the Board a recommended approach for Providing Police Services in Napoleon Township as a result of the retirement of Chief Michael Curry

5 History - Police Coverage 5 Typical coverage is 20 hours per day Monday through Saturday 15 hours on Sunday Monday s coverage scaled back to 7:30 AM to Midnight, in order to bank hours to use for investigations or events etc. Chief Curry generally worked two ten hour shifts on road patrol and two ten hour shifts on administration and investigations

6 Night Shift 6 Typically 10 hours per day 5:30 pm to 3:30 am or 6pm to 4am There was a 3 rd full time officer, however, that full-time position was eliminated due to budget cuts Full-time position eliminated yet Chief Curry was able to maintain the coverage by using part time officers at a lower hourly wage, with zero benefit expense

7 Number of Police Calls dispatches 4,674 and Quick Calls 8, dispatches 4,075 and Quick Calls 7, Total calls dispatched by JSO 2,124 (excludes traffic stops) Napoleon Officer handled 1,775 JSO handled 285, and MSP handled Total Traffic Stops 2,245 Napoleon Officer initiated 2,090 JSO initiated and MSP initiated 45

11 The Process 11 The committee held several meetings which included meetings with Chief Curry, Chief Hawley, Chief Elwell and Supervisor Elrod from Columbia Township, and Sheriff Rand Public meeting was held on November 10, 2015, to seek input from the citizens of Napoleon Township

12 How Committee Scored Options 12 Scoring is based on the accumulative total of each of the 5 individual committee member s scores for said option The lower the score, the more favorable the committee ranked the option The options are listed in order from the least favorable to the most favorable ranking
