Notes Graduation rates are updated each October with fall census enrollment information. For first-time full-time new freshmen entering summer or fall terms Full time = 12+ hrs, counted at end of the fall term Students graduating from institutions other than CU Boulder are NOT counted in the graduation rates. 2 2 Fall 2015 Highlights Six-Year Graduation Rate Overall The overall 6-year graduation rate was 71% for full-time freshmen entering in 2009, the most recent class to have had a full 6 years to graduate. This is a new record high since tracking began in This is also the sixth consecutive year in which the graduation rate has either bettered or equaled the previous all-time high. By Residency The 6-year graduation rate for Colorado residents set a new high for the second consecutive year (75%), while the non-resident rate also set a new record at 66%. By Gender Female students reached an all-time high, with 74% of those who entered in 2009 graduating in 6 years or less. s graduated at a 68% rate, equaling the all-time high set by the previous year s cohort. The 6-year graduation rate for students of color in the entering class of 2009 reached an all-time high at 66%, one percentage point higher than last year, which was the previous record high. The gap between students of color and white students was 6 percentage points, in line with the usual gap historically. Pell Grant recipients The 6-year graduation rate for recipients of federal Pell Grants (a proxy for lower income students) entering in 2009 was 62%, an increase of 2 percentage points over the previous class and 1 percentage point below the all-time high achieved by the entering class of 2007.
3 3 Retention Rates Retention Rates Over-Time In these plots we used a statistical technique called LOESS smoothing to better show the overall pattern for each ethnic group, which natural year-to-year variation can sometimes make difficult to discern. Rather than individual yearly data points alone, or a jagged line connecting each point, we show curved lines that smooth out the year-to-year variation and show the overall pattern for each group. The symbols and lines match in color for each ethnic group; for example, the graduation rates for African- Americans for each year are shown as small red circles, while the red line shows the smoothed trend. The retention rate for White students has been stable and high. By contrast, retention rates for ethnic minorities, partially due to the smaller numbers involved for some groups, have fluctuated more from year to year. Looking at overall trends, however, the rates have clearly increased for Hispanic/Chicano students and Native American students, with a smaller increase for Asian- Americans. The retention rate for African-American students has been relatively unchanged over time. Native American rates vary from year to year because the number of entering students in this group is smaller.

22 22 Graduation Rates By Race/Ethnicity 4-year graduation rates over-time In these plots we used a statistical technique called LOESS smoothing to better show the overall pattern for each ethnic group, which natural year-to-year variation can sometimes make difficult to discern. Rather than individual yearly data points alone, or a jagged line connecting each point, we show curved lines that smooth out the year-to-year variation and show the overall pattern for each group. The symbols and lines match in color for each ethnic group; for example, the graduation rates for African-Americans for each year are shown as small red circles, while the red line shows the smoothed trend. The four-year graduation rate for White students was flat until the late 1990s and has increased a few percentage points since then. By contrast, four-year graduation rates for ethnic minorities have increased more steadily and substantially over the time period. Native American rates vary from year to year because the number of entering students in this group is smaller There have been ups and downs from year to year, partly owing to small numbers, but the general trend has been upward for each ethnic minority group.
